Everything You Need to Know Before Seeing Kraven the Hunter

Every year Marvel and Sony Marvel layout which movies they have planned out for the future. This year comes with a bunch of new films to enjoy, including “Ant Man and the Wasp” in February, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in May, “The Marvels” in July, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” in June, and finally, the long-awaited “Kraven the Hunter” in October. Kraven may be unknown to those who haven’t been lucky enough to dive deep into the world of comics, so we compiled everything you need to know before “Kraven the Hunter” releases on October 6, 2023. 

Who plays Kraven? 

The handsome and talented 32-year-old, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, plays Kraven. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s agent has helped him secure some excellent movie roles. Though he has been acting since he was six, he first appeared in a superhero action movie when Kick-Ass was released in 2010. 

From there, he went on to play Pietro Maximoff in a brief cameo in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in 2014. He then secured a more significant role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in 2015, where he won our hearts by joining the Avenger’s fight and sacrificing his life in an attempt to save Hawkeye and Costel. 

Who is Kraven the Hunter? 

Unlike Pietro Maximoff who died fighting the bad guy, Kraven the Hunter is a supervillain and one of Spider-Man’s most formidable enemies throughout the Marvel comics. 

Kraven was born in Volgograd, Russia, as part of an aristocracy that inevitably ended. His real name is Sergei Kravinoff, and he eventually becomes interested in hunting large game. Initially, he uses the typical hunting tools, but later learns that he enjoys the challenge of fighting and killing with his own bare hands. 

What makes Kraven such a worthy opponent? 

Kraven is no typical big-game hunter. In addition to hunting with his bare hands, he also occasionally consumes a special herbal elixir that he obtained from his voodoo priestess lover, Calypso. 

This serum gives Kraven enhanced abilities. He has super strength and can lift as much as two tons. He is incredibly fast and can reach speeds up to 60 MPH for short distances. The potion also slows the aging process, contributing to his longevity. 

Kraven also has training through a mercenary, so he has incredible skills and wants to be considered the best hunter there ever was. 

Why Does Kraven Want to Defeat Spider-Man? 

Kraven is the half-brother of Spider-Man’s first-ever opponent, Dmitri Smerdyakov or the Chameleon. His half-brother is revealed as the one who contacts him to help him defeat Spider-Man, and together they hatch a plan to take him down. 

Kraven knows that Spider-Man is an impressive opponent, which only adds to his desire to defeat him and be considered the best.
