‘Fire Country’ is set to return for Season 5, but a significant change has left fans feeling uneasy.

As reported by Deadline, the popular firefighter drama will not feature a full season this time around. Instead of the customary 20 episodes, Season 5 will consist of only 13 episodes. This reduction marks a shift from the show’s previous seasons.

Additionally, the series will not remain in CBS’s Friday lineup for the entire season. It is anticipated to exit the schedule earlier than in past seasons, where it typically ran the full duration.

CBS has clarified that its Friday lineup remains robust and largely unchanged. As Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach noted during the schedule announcement, “The CBS Friday night entertainment lineup has been No. 1 for an incredible 16 straight seasons, so we’re sticking with what works, Sheriff Country at 8, Fire Country at 9, and Boston Blue at 10.”

Despite this reassurance, the reduced episode count indicates that changes are occurring behind the scenes. One factor is the increasing number of shows on CBS. The network is introducing new series while maintaining most of its existing hits, resulting in less space for longer seasons.

There is also a shift occurring off-screen. Eric Guggenheim will take over as the new showrunner, succeeding Tia Napolitano, who has been at the helm for the first four seasons. Such transitions can impact how a season is structured.

Nonetheless, ‘Fire Country’ continues to perform well. It has remained a strong asset for CBS and has even contributed to the launch of new shows like Sheriff Country and Boston Blue, both of which have garnered attention.

Currently, it is uncertain what will fill its time slot later in the season. CBS has several options, including other returning series or new shows that could take its place.

Season 5 is confirmed, but with fewer episodes and a shorter run, it will undoubtedly feel different for fans accustomed to a more extensive offering each year.
