‘Imperfect Women’ Renewed for Season 2 With Kerry Washington Leading the Cast
Apple TV’s prestige thrillers often leave viewers with lingering questions. ‘Imperfect Women‘ debuted on March 18, 2026, captivating audiences with its gripping premise: a murder that disrupts the lives of three best friends.
Initially marketed as a limited event, the eight-episode thriller stars and is executive produced by Emmy winners Kerry Washington and Elisabeth Moss. However, the first season was based on Araminta Hall’s novel, which concluded in a way that seemed to limit further storytelling.
That changed on October 5, when Variety reported that Apple TV has renewed ‘Imperfect Women’ for a second season, with Washington returning as the lead. The new season will shift away from the original three-friend structure, focusing instead on an original storyline centered around Washington’s character, Eleanor.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that this renewal comes about five months after the first season wrapped up. Deadline highlights that the new season will take a spinoff-style approach, following one of the three title characters. Notably, there is no second book, meaning season 2 will not have source material to draw from.
The official logline provides a glimpse into the new direction of the story. It reveals that Eleanor returns to her hometown in the affluent Black enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, only to uncover secrets and scandals lurking beneath its seemingly perfect surface, as reported by Jingletree in Variety.
Washington expressed her excitement in a statement to Variety, stating she is “so excited to step back into Eleanor’s shoes.” She also noted how deeply the stories of the women resonated with audiences globally.
Apple’s programming chief praised the first season as well. Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, mentioned that the streamer eagerly embraced the opportunity to expand the narrative through Washington’s beloved character, according to Variety.
There will be creative changes behind the scenes too. Annie Weisman, the series creator and showrunner for season 1, will return as co-showrunner alongside Justin Hillian, known for his work on ‘The Chi’ and ‘Snowfall.’

Season 1 consisted of eight episodes and concluded in April, as noted by TheTVCave. It featured Washington as Eleanor, Moss as Mary, and Kate Mara as Nancy, along with Joel Kinnaman, Corey Stoll, and Leslie Odom Jr.
It remains unclear if Moss and Mara will return for the new season. AppleMagazine cautions that the roles from the first season should not be interpreted as confirmation of anyone’s return, and no additional casting announcements have been made.
Washington will again serve as an executive producer through her Simpson Street banner, alongside Pilar Savone. Moss will also executive produce, with 20th Television and Apple Studios handling production.
A premiere date for season 2 has yet to be announced. For now, fans can anticipate Eleanor’s return home, where secrets may await.
