The Toronto International Film Festival has a unique way of creating star moments that often reveal more than any red carpet can. It’s the unscripted, offbeat appearances that tend to define an actress’s breakout year. This September, one name stood out among the candid sightings more than most.

That name is Inde Navarrette, an actress who has been transitioning from a familiar supporting role to one of the industry’s most promising rising stars. Her presence at TIFF this year only solidified that trajectory, culminating in a series of newly shared images that quickly captured fans’ attention.

The photos in question are part of Interview Magazine’s “The Stars of TIFF, Spotted!” feature, captured by photographer Myles Pettengill and published on September 22. They showcase Navarrette playfully posing inside a New York bodega, striking dynamic poses among the snack aisles and even perching on top of an ice cream freezer, all while dressed in sleek black attire.

The bodega shoot did not occur in isolation. Navarrette’s TIFF appearance came after a truly defining period for the 25-year-old, who starred in the 2025 supernatural horror film ‘Obsession,’ earning widespread acclaim and a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance. This success has established her name beyond her earlier television roles in ‘Superman & Lois’ and ’13 Reasons Why.’ That momentum seamlessly transitioned into this year’s festival, where she participated in a “Dialogues” panel discussing ‘Obsession’ alongside co-star Curry Barker.

In addition to her film work, Navarrette has quietly built an impressive fashion portfolio throughout the year, featuring in campaigns for Coach and Miu Miu, as well as in American Studies Magazine and Cosmopolitan. Her inclusion in Interview Magazine’s TIFF lineup places her alongside a notable roster of stars, including Zooey Deschanel, Lily-Rose Depp, and Margaret Qualley, highlighting her rapid rise in the industry.

However, none of this momentum compares to what lies ahead for Navarrette. At Disney’s D23 Expo in August, Marvel Studios officially announced that she will portray Rogue in the highly anticipated ‘X-Men’ reboot, joining a cast that features Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as the villainous Mister Sinister. Directed by Jake Schreier, known for ‘Thunderbolts,’ the film is set to be released on May 5, 2028.

This casting effectively concluded months of speculation surrounding names like Cailee Spaeny for the role, with Navarrette’s breakout performance in ‘Obsession’ ultimately prevailing. It’s a significant endorsement from Marvel, placing high expectations on her as the studio rebuilds its mutant universe after years of anticipation from fans.

Together, her acclaimed horror breakout, expanding fashion portfolio, and major franchise role on the horizon illustrate an actress whose rise is hard to overlook. A playful, low-key photoshoot in a bodega may seem like a small moment, but it encapsulates the effortless star quality that has driven her rapid ascent this year.

With TIFF now behind her and an ‘X-Men’ film on the way, Navarrette’s profile shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
