Kevin Feige Reportedly Revealed Ambitious 10-Year X-Men Plan Beyond Avengers Films

As the MCU gets closer to finishing The Multiverse Saga, a new era of superhero adventures is coming. This includes the long-awaited introduction of the X-Men, now that Marvel Studios has the rights to the characters again.
Fans are excited because, with the X-Men back, there’s a chance we’ll finally see them share the screen with the Avengers, something we’ll get a glimpse of in Avengers: Doomsday.
According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, Marvel Studios is already making big plans for the X-Men.
The report reveals that Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, has reportedly told his colleagues that he has a 10-year plan for the X-Men in the MCU. At the time of the report, Disney and Marvel Studios had not commented on the story.
While the Wall Street Journal report doesn’t give any details about the 10-year plan, it hints that Feige is thinking big for the future of the mutants. Fans have long suspected that Phase 7 of the MCU will kick off a “Mutant Saga” but, according to the report, that doesn’t mean non-X-Men characters won’t still play an important role in the MCU.
Feige’s plan will likely balance the mutants with the rest of the Marvel universe.
Even before the rumored 10-year plan for the X-Men, Kevin Feige had already hinted in past interviews that the mutant era of the MCU would begin with the release of Deadpool and Wolverine. While mutants have appeared in the MCU before (Kamala Khan, Namor), they weren’t explicitly acknowledged as mutants.
A few years ago, when Kang was still the primary villain in the Multiverse Saga, rumors and reports circulated about a possible soft reboot for the MCU. This reboot would focus on moving away from what isn’t working and keeping what is.
If you’re reading this, you’re likely aware that former X-Men stars, including Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Sir Patrick Stewart, Rebecca Romijn and Allan Cumming are set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, presumably reprising their iconic roles as the X-Men.
There’s also Channing Tatum, who debuted as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, and will have a role in Doomsday.
But perhaps the most interesting development is that Ryan Reynolds is working on a Deadpool X-Men team-up movie. Reynolds is reportedly writing multiple versions of the film, which would feature three or four X-Men characters.
While Deadpool would still appear, he wouldn’t be the main focus of the movie. Reynolds believes that by giving Deadpool a smaller role, the X-Men can shine in fun and unexpected ways.
“He needs a reason to be in a movie,” a source said. Reynolds has always maintained that every Deadpool film needs a strong purpose to exist, and this new idea may just provide it.
This project is distinct from the X-Men movie being written by Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie, which is a separate Marvel Studios project.
Though we don’t know which X-Men characters will appear in Reynolds’ movie, it’s clear that the legacy of the MCU will now be heavily shaped by mutants.
