The highly anticipated Norwegian monster film Kraken, directed by Pål Øie, is making waves internationally ahead of its 2025 release. The film, inspired by the legendary deep-sea creature, has recently secured distribution deals in Germany, France, and Spain. Splendid Film will bring the movie to German audiences, Mediawan Rights has picked it up for France, and Youplanet will distribute it in Spain.

These new deals follow earlier sales to North America, where Kraken will be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films, and Latin America, where Gussi has acquired the rights. With international interest growing, the film is quickly establishing itself as one of Norway’s biggest cinematic exports.

Kraken follows marine biologist Johanne, who is sent to investigate strange and unexplained events occurring near a Norwegian fjord. As her research progresses, she uncovers a terrifying truth—an ancient, monstrous creature with massive tentacles lurking beneath the water’s surface. The beast, capable of causing destruction on an unimaginable scale, soon turns the investigation into a desperate fight for survival.

The film blends elements of horror, suspense, and Nordic mythology, promising a thrilling cinematic experience for audiences worldwide.

Director Pål Øie reunites with producers John Einar Hagen and Einar Loftesnes, with whom he previously collaborated on the 2019 disaster thriller The Tunnel. The film is produced by Nordisk Film Production, along with Handmade Films in Norwegian Woods.

The production received key support from several organizations, including the Norwegian Film Institute, Mediefondet Zefyr, Vestnorsk Filmcenter, and Business Finland. The cities of Turku and Tampere also contributed to the project, highlighting the strong Nordic collaboration behind the film.

International sales for Kraken are being handled by TrustNordisk, which is currently meeting with potential buyers at this year’s European Film Market (EFM). With multiple distribution deals already secured and growing excitement around the film, Kraken is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated monster movies of 2025.

As the release date approaches, audiences around the world can prepare for an intense and visually stunning deep-sea horror adventure—one that brings the legendary Kraken to terrifying life on the big screen.
