Magneto vs. Thanos: Who Wins in a Fight?
In the Marvel universe, none of the Avengers were able to stop Thanos from whipping out half of the population, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone who could have stopped him. I believe there are some Marvel villains who can stand up to the Mad Titan and put an end to him. The one that stands out for me the most is definitely Magneto.
Magneto wins because not only can he manipulate metal, including Thanos’ armor and the Infinity Gauntlet, but he is also a genius strategist. Even more so than Thanos.
Among all the powerful mutants, Magneto is considered to be the strongest and most intelligent in the Marvel universe. He is able to control all forms of magnetism along with several other skills. Still, Thanos has dedicated his life to studying all possible ways to improve his powers.
Ever since the Mad Titan snapped his fingers, I’ve been wondering if Magneto was the one fighting him, would it have ended the same way? There are many things that need to be considered before making a decision on who would win.
Magneto would be able to crush Thanos in a matter of seconds considering that his protective suit of armor is made of metal. In addition to that, the Infinity Gauntlet is made of metal as well, which means that Magneto would easily be able to take it away from him.
Magneto’s Power and Skills
Background
Max Eisenhardt (Magneto), was born to a Jewish family in Germany in the ‘20s. In the ‘30s and ‘40s, his family was captured, taken to concentration camps, and then killed. Max was the only survivor because of his genetic mutations. Due to his rough childhood, Magneto grows to believe that mutants should rule the world and not live peacefully with humans like Professor X wanted.
After the execution of his family, Max was captured and sent to Auschwitz where he was responsible for removing bodies from the gas chamber. There, he met a girl called Magda whom he loved, and they managed to escape together, get married, and have a daughter. Soon after that, attackers broke into his home at night after they found out about his powers and set the house on fire, which led to the death of his daughter.
Throughout the years, Max would change his name to Eric and meet Professor X. They were close friends for a while until they had a heated disagreement on how mutants should live on earth. Eric and Professor X aren’t always enemies – when Magneto confesses his wrongdoings, he joins forces with the X-men to defeat a common enemy.
Powers
Magneto’s name comes from his ability to control any form of magnetism. This doesn’t mean his powers only allow him to move metal objects around; Magneto can also create magnetic force fields that can control any non-metallic object. The magnetic force field can also create a protective shield from any attack.
Magneto can also manipulate gravitational fields, creating wormholes that allow him to teleport from one place to another if needed. He can also fly and become invisible by wrapping visible light around him. He’s not 100% invisible like other Marvel characters, but he can make it seem as if he is.
His physical strength is not the best, but he can move objects that weigh 300,000 tons without any problems. He can also allow the magnetic energy field to pass right through him, giving him enough strength to fight his enemies. However, Magneto, or Max, is a human being at the end of the day. If an enemy manages to get through his protective shields, he will be vulnerable to attacks.
Intelligence
Magneto is known to be a great strategist as he never attacks without proper planning first. He doesn’t go into battle without knowing what he’s up against and he starts preparing accordingly, which has helped him win many fights.
As he was close to Professor X, Magneto is well aware of his friend’s telepathic powers, so he designed a strong helmet to protect him from any telepathic attacks and protect his mind from any kind of control.
Thano’s Power and Skills
Background
Thanos comes from a planet called Titan. He grew up observing the danger and suffering of his people due to overpopulation, and that’s when he realized that the only solution was the elimination of half the population. Thanos suggested that removing half of the planet’s population will decrease the suffering of many planets, he then added that it should be fair, so a random half would be removed to make life better.
He was considered to be a mad man and was banished from his planet. Shortly after that, his planet died from overpopulation because they lacked all the necessary resources to survive. Thanos didn’t stop thinking about other planets and that they would eventually face the same danger Titan did. He went from planet to planet killing almost half of the living creatures in pursuit of what he believes as “saving the universe”.
After Taking matters into his own hands, Thanos decided to find a better, and easier, way to save the universe, and that’s when he decided to go after the infinity stones.
Powers
Ever since he was a child, the Mad Titan was different from his species. He was physically stronger than anyone he knew, and when he started going from one planet to another he became much stronger and always found ways to enhance his powers. On top of all that, he is eternal, which means that he is physically different from humans in terms of strength.
Thanos has colossal physical strength and he kept undergoing magical and powerful enhancement to make himself stronger. He also knows how to use his strength in hand-to-hand combat and using weapons.
Apart from his physical strength, Thanos also has high telepathic powers that help him defend himself against any mental attack. Because of all that, Thanos is almost physically and mentally unbeatable.
Intelligence
As I mentioned earlier, Thanos went from planet to planet killing half of the population. This journey or pursuit of saving the planets gave him enough knowledge to enter any battle and knowing how it will end. He knows how to prepare and fight battles because of his genius strategic thinking.
Who Would Win In a Fight?
Magneto and Thanos are both incredibly powerful and intelligent. If we remove the gauntlet from the equation, I believe that Magneto would be able to win this fight as he would prepare extensively for it, study Thanos’s weakness, and attack at the right moment. However, when it comes to physical strength Thanos wins without hesitation, he’s a bit slow, which gives Magneto an advantage when attacking.
