Meet ‘The Lowdown’ Season 2 Cast and Characters with Pictures

Created by Sterlin Harjo for FX, the neo-noir crime comedy-drama series ‘The Lowdown’ continues to develop its Tulsa-based storyline with a mix of beloved returning characters and significant new faces. The second season centers on citizen journalist and self-proclaimed “truthstorian” Lee Raybon as he delves into a perilous missing-person case within the state prison system, all while dealing with unexpected family dynamics. The cast features experienced film and television actors who portray complex characters caught in Oklahoma’s political and legal intricacies.

Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke leads the crime comedy-drama series as executive producer and stars as Lee Raybon, a rare bookstore owner and self-proclaimed Tulsa “truthstorian.” Inspired by the late Oklahoma historian Lee Roy Chapman, Raybon dedicates himself to uncovering local cover-ups and challenging powerful regional interests. In the second season of ‘The Lowdown’, Raybon becomes involved in a new mystery surrounding an inmate who has gone missing in the state correctional system, while his life becomes increasingly complicated due to the sudden arrival of his estranged father and ongoing family tensions.

Keith David

Keith David returns to his role as Marty Brunner, a seasoned private investigator working throughout Tulsa. Brunner collaborates with Lee Raybon, providing grounded investigative expertise and practical advice during high-stakes cases. Throughout the episodes of ‘The Lowdown’, his professional demeanor serves as a stark contrast to Raybon’s impulsive and eccentric investigative style. In season 2, Brunner remains a reliable partner as deeper institutional conspiracies unfold across Oklahoma.

Betty Gilpin

Betty Gilpin joins the main cast for season 2 as Ginger Rafferty, a determined public defender in Tulsa. Ginger encounters Lee Raybon after realizing she is being monitored while investigating a client who has disappeared within the prison system. Her legal pursuits quickly align with Raybon’s investigative efforts as both characters uncover hidden layers of regional corruption. Gilpin’s character adds a sharp legal perspective to the ongoing neo-noir narrative central to ‘The Lowdown’.

Tommy Lee Jones

Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones joins the series in season 2, playing Lee Raybon Sr., the estranged father of the lead character. He is first introduced when local police find him as a seemingly confused older man and take him to his son’s bookstore in Tulsa. His sudden reappearance creates immediate family tension, especially since Raybon had previously told his young daughter that her grandfather had died. Throughout the second season of ‘The Lowdown’, Lee Sr. seeks to reconnect with his family while harboring his own undisclosed agenda and unresolved issues.
