Norifusa Mita and Osamu Uoto Will Work Together on New Manga Titled ‘Makai no Gijō’

Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine just announced that Norifusa Mita and Osamu Uoto are teaming up for a brand-new manga. The series, titled Makai no Gijō (The Chamber of the Demon World), will debut in the magazine’s next issue on February 21. Mita is handling the story, while Uoto is doing the artwork.
The teaser hints at a dramatic story about a man who spent 15 years as a shut-in and how his life takes a drastic turn. There’s no further info yet, but considering Mita’s track record, it’s safe to expect something gripping.
Mita is best known for ‘Dragon Zakura,’ which ran from 2003 to 2007 and even won a Kodansha Manga Award. The series was so popular it got a live-action TV adaptation in 2005, followed by a sequel in 2010.
A Korean version came out the same year. Years later, Mita brought the story back with ‘Dragon Zakura Two’ in 2018, wrapping it up in 2021. That sequel also got a live-action series in April 2021.
His manga ‘Archimedes no Taisen’ (The Great War of Archimedes) ran from 2015 to 2023, ending with 378 chapters. It started in Weekly Young Magazine before shifting to YanMaga Web in 2023. Kodansha published the final 38th volume in December. The story was also adapted into a live-action film in July 2019.
As for Uoto, he’s known for his work on ‘Kasai no Hito’ (The Family Cultivator), a manga he co-created with Jinpachi Mori. It ran in Big Comic Original from 1988 to 1996.
The story was so well-received it got multiple live-action adaptations, including a TV series in 1993 and specials in 1996 and 2004. In 2021, another two-hour TV drama was released.
Uoto was also behind ‘Ganbaryonkaa Masako-chan’, which ran in Weekly Big Comic Spirits from January 2022 to October 2023.
