The buzz surrounding ‘Off Campus’ has intensified online, primarily due to the notable age difference between the two lead actors. This topic was brought to light during an interview with Ella Bright on the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch.

At just 19 years old, Bright candidly discussed her experience working alongside 28-year-old Belmont Cameli. Fans have expressed surprise regarding their age gap, particularly since the series features romantic and intimate scenes between their characters.

Bright acknowledged the strong reactions but emphasized that she was fully aware of the role’s demands from the outset. She clarified that she was 18 when filming began and had no reservations about participating in the project, stating, “There was never a question that I wouldn’t want to do this.”

She elaborated on her preparation for the role and the overall experience. Bright mentioned that she joined the project after chemistry reads and was already familiar with the story and scenes. She quickly connected with her character and the script, expressing her immediate affection for the role and narrative.

The series ‘Off Campus’ is adapted from books by Elle Kennedy, centering on college students at the fictional Briar University. The plot delves into relationships, friendships, and the young adult experience, particularly focusing on the dynamic between Hannah Wells, portrayed by Bright, and Garrett Graham, played by Cameli.

In the show, Hannah and Garrett initially engage in a fake dating scheme, with Hannah aiming to provoke jealousy in another guy. However, this plan gradually evolves into genuine feelings, creating much of the romantic drama and emotional tension within the series.

Bright also shared insights about the on-set environment, stating she never felt uncomfortable or excluded due to her age. She described the cast and crew as a close-knit family, ensuring a safe and professional atmosphere throughout filming. She remarked, “We’re all such a family and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people.”

Addressing fans’ concerns about the age gap in relation to the romantic scenes, Bright expressed her understanding but reiterated that she personally did not encounter any issues while filming. She noted that everyone involved was aware of the show’s content prior to filming, with clear expectations set for each role.

The topic of intimacy was also discussed during the podcast. Bright mentioned that some scenes involve partial nudity, and all actors were informed in advance about what would be required. She highlighted that different characters had varying levels of comfort and openness, and everyone agreed to those terms before filming commenced.

Host Amanda Hirsch defended the show’s approach during the interview, noting that Bright’s character is an adult college student and emphasizing that while the content may be bold, it is not extreme.

Outside of the podcast, Bright has previously spoken about her friendship with Cameli. At a fan convention, she described him as kind and supportive, noting that they quickly grew close while navigating long filming days together.

The conversation surrounding the show continues to evolve online, but Bright’s primary message remains clear. From her perspective, everything on set was transparent, professional, and agreed upon from the beginning.
