Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day is making waves at the box office even before its official release. Industry reports indicate that the Tom Holland-led sequel, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, has recorded the highest first-day advance ticket sales in the last five years.

Set to hit theaters on July 31, the film enters a competitive summer window, following Universal’s Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey, which debuts two weeks prior. Despite this competition, the early demand for Brand New Day points to significant audience interest in Peter Parker’s return.

Reports suggest that the new film has outperformed recent major superhero releases in early presales. It has already surpassed Disney and Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which opened in 2022 with $187.4 million domestically. This positions Brand New Day in comparison with Spider-Man: No Way Home, one of the biggest box office successes in recent years.

No Way Home set a high standard for the franchise, with estimated presales reaching around $78 million before its December 2021 release. That film went on to debut with $260.1 million domestically and grossed over $600 million worldwide in its opening weekend, ranking it among the top global debuts of all time, currently sitting third behind Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues the narrative following the events of No Way Home. At the conclusion of that film, Peter Parker’s identity was erased from the memories of those closest to him, including his girlfriend MJ, portrayed by Zendaya. The upcoming film is anticipated to delve into the ramifications of that choice and how Peter navigates a life where he is once again a stranger to those he loves.

The film’s impressive early performance comes despite some production hurdles. Tom Holland reportedly sustained an injury during filming, yet the release date remains unchanged. Additionally, the movie is launching without IMAX screenings, which are currently allocated to The Odyssey, but this has not dampened early ticket demand.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton shared his thoughts on the character’s future in an interview with Crew Call, stating, “Is there ever a last Spider-Man? Everyone should go to this [movie] as if it’s the last Spider-Man.” This comment adds to the ongoing speculation about whether this installment could signify a pivotal moment for Holland’s portrayal of the character.

With robust presales already established and high expectations from audiences, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is poised to be one of the major theatrical releases of 2026.
