Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone Filming ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ in Hoboken
Few thrillers have captivated audiences like ‘The Housemaid’, and now its sequel is officially underway. Production has begun, with filming taking place in various unexpected locations around the New York area this fall.
The original film, adapted from Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, emerged as one of the biggest surprise hits of 2025, grossing over $401 million worldwide on a $35 million budget. This success prompted Lionsgate to greenlight a sequel, which was announced on January 6, with production slated for 2026.
On the morning of October 14, fans caught a glimpse of the production as Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone were spotted filming ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ in Hoboken, New Jersey. Filming commenced around 9 a.m. along Garden Street between 9th and 10th Streets. Sweeney reprises her role as Millie Calloway, while Morrone returns as Enzo.

Hoboken is just one of the filming locations. On October 6, Sweeney was reportedly seen shooting at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, with production focused on Grant Hall. Filming is set to continue across New York City and New Jersey this fall.
The chosen locations align well with the story. The sequel follows Millie as she takes a job with a wealthy family in Manhattan, where hidden secrets lurk beneath their polished exterior. Fans are eagerly observing the set to see how this world is brought to life.

The film adapts the second novel in McFadden’s bestselling series, published in 2023. In this installment, Millie secures a lucrative cleaning job in a Manhattan penthouse, but with one peculiar rule: she must never interact with the wife, who is supposedly ill and confined behind a locked bedroom door. Naturally, Millie begins to investigate.
This sequel brings significant changes to the cast. Nina and Andrew Winchester, portrayed by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar in the first film, do not appear in the sequel novel, and there has been no confirmation regarding their return. Seyfried has mentioned she could envision a brief cameo.
Joining the cast is Kirsten Dunst as Wendy Garrick, along with Paul Anthony Kelly as Douglas Garrick, the affluent couple Millie works for this time. Brittany Snow plays Marybeth, while Stephen Kalyn portrays Brock. Morrone’s return as Enzo connects the film to the original story, although details about his role remain undisclosed.
Behind the scenes, Paul Feig returns to direct and produce, with Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, penning the sequel script. Sweeney is also a producer on the project. The series consists of three novels and a novella, providing ample material for future installments if the studio chooses to expand the franchise.
Lionsgate has set a theatrical release date of December 17, 2027. This date is notably crowded, coinciding with the release of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and the studio is banking on the first film’s strong word of mouth to propel the sequel. Currently, no trailer, plot synopsis, or official images from the production have been released.
For now, fans will have to make do with set sightings and occasional video clips. As filming progresses, more insights are likely to emerge as the crew continues their work in the area.
