Tatsuki Fujimoto’s ‘Look Back’ Anime Film Wins Animation of the Year at Japanese Movie Critics Awards

Tatsuki Fujimoto is best known as the author of the globally popular Chainsaw Man manga series, but you can assume that Chainsaw Man is not his only work. He has written several other works, including the acclaimed one-shot manga Look Back.

This coming-of-age story was absolutely lauded in Japan and last year, the story received an anime film adaptation. The story focuses on Ayumu Fujino, a young mangaka who, driven by rivalry and friendship with a reclusive classmate, strives to improve her craft and finds purpose in creating art.

The movie was written and directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama and it premiered last year at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, becoming a major hit among fans and critics.

After a successful reception, the movie also went on to win numerous awards in Japan, while also getting a lot nominations. The movie triumphed at the Hochi Film Awards, the Seiyu Awards, it won the Japan Academy Film Prize, and gained two awards at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival.

Now, a new award has been confirmed, as the anime film was named as the best anime in the Animation of the Year category at the Japanese Movie Critics Awards.

The ceremony is going to be held in June, but the winners have been announced on April 24.
