‘The Beekeeper 2’ Trailer and Release Date Confirmed with Jason Statham’s Return
Every so often, a January release defies the season’s reputation for leftovers and becomes a true crowd-pleaser. ‘The Beekeeper’ achieved just that, and anticipation for ‘The Beekeeper 2’ trailer has been building since the sequel was announced.
The first film grossed $162.6 million at the box office and received a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Amazon MGM Studios later secured worldwide rights to the sequel in a deal exceeding $50 million, making a bold investment in a story about a retired assassin who also keeps bees.
The wait for a proper glimpse is finally over. Miramax has unveiled the official trailer, confirming that the film will hit theaters during the MLK holiday weekend. This release date marks exactly three years since the original film premiered on the same holiday. The promotional material indicates it will be a theatrical-only release in premium formats and carries an R rating.

Jason Statham reprises his role as Adam Clay, and this time the stakes are both personal and political. Clay finds himself a wanted man as he attempts to rescue President Jessica Danforth, portrayed by Jemma Redgrave, from the Beekeepers, her own rogue secret organization. The trailer suggests that the most dangerous operative ever created by the program is now the only one capable of stopping it.
This development isn’t entirely unexpected. Footage shown at CinemaCon earlier this year featured Jeremy Irons’ Wallace Westwyld warning Clay about the rogue Beekeepers while Clay searched for a missing friend. That same footage showcased him unleashing a swarm of bees into a locked room and using his enemies’ own weapons against them.
The tone appears to embrace the absurdity that made the original so popular. In the footage, Clay even mentions using bee stings to slow his bleeding. Subtlety has never been the focus of this franchise.
David Ayer will not return to direct, with ‘Nobody 2’ director Timo Tjahjanto stepping in. Ayer is currently occupied with his next project, Brad Pitt’s ‘The Heart of the Beast’. However, Tjahjanto’s background suggests he is well-suited for the material.
Known for intense action films like ‘The Night Comes for Us’, Tjahjanto has expressed that he was drawn to the sequel because Clay reminds him of one of his favorite Marvel characters, The Punisher. He has also described the villains as “unpredictable” and “colorful,” resembling characters that could have emerged from an anime or manga.
The cast combines familiar faces with exciting new additions. Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave, and Jeremy Irons return from the original, while newcomers Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, and Adam Copeland join the ensemble. Irons portrays Wallace Westwyld, the former CIA director now overseeing security for Danforth Enterprises.
Behind the scenes, Statham once again takes on a producer role, collaborating with Chris Long and Kurt Wimmer. Principal photography reportedly commenced on September 26, 2025, and wrapped approximately two months later.
Part of the original’s appeal was its straightforward, escalating revenge narrative. One critic likened it to ‘John Wick’, swapping the puppy-killing villains for phishing scammers targeting the elderly. By positioning the Beekeeper program itself as the antagonist, the sequel has room to expand the mythology while maintaining that pulpy energy.
The timing also works in its favor. Statham has been busy this year with ‘Shelter’ and ‘Mutiny’, providing audiences with a steady dose of his signature action style. A sequel promising larger set pieces and more unconventional weapons should stand out amidst the competition.
However, it won’t have the weekend all to itself. The sequel will face off against Paramount’s ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ and a new project from Universal and Blumhouse. Still, the first film demonstrated that a bee-themed vigilante can thrive even in a crowded holiday release.
