Few TV revivals have embraced their setting quite like ‘Dexter: Resurrection’. By relocating Dexter Morgan from Miami to the bustling streets of New York City, the series provides its iconic serial killer with a new hunting ground and an exciting supporting cast. As the show prepares for its next chapter, the red carpet is already heating up.

The upcoming episodes will be available on Paramount+ starting Friday, Oct. 30, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays. An official trailer was released on Oct. 1, following a teaser in September that featured Dexter during a routine optometrist visit, perfectly aligning with the show’s darkly comedic tone. Together, these previews suggest a more perilous New York than viewers have seen before.

This excitement carried over to a glamorous premiere event in the city, where one of the standout guests turned heads. Uma Thurman graced the ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ premiere in a chic black blazer-style dress with satin lapels, sheer black tights, and pointed pumps, accessorizing with a small black clutch. She posed in front of a backdrop featuring the show’s logo splattered in blood-red paint, a fitting nod to a series centered on carnage.

Thurman made her entrance into the ‘Dexter’ universe in the first season as Charley, a former special operations officer who served as the right-hand woman and head of security to Leon Prater, the villainous billionaire serial-killer enthusiast portrayed by Peter Dinklage. By the finale, Charley had turned against Prater and left New York to care for her ailing mother in Pennsylvania.

Her return is confirmed, but the specifics of how her path will intersect with Dexter’s remain a mystery. Reports indicate that she may have a more significant role this time around. This uncertainty adds to the intrigue, as a character with Charley’s skills could significantly impact the storyline in various ways.

The narrative continues Dexter’s journey in New York, where he finds himself caught between two killers while grappling with a midlife crisis. His son, Harrison, is also seeking justice, and together they face what is described as their darkest chapter yet. The season introduces the New York Ripper, a killer who remains inactive yet taunts the survivors of past victims, alongside the Five Borough Killer, who threatens innocent New Yorkers and follows through on his threats.

Michael C. Hall reprises his role as Dexter, with Jack Alcott returning as Harrison. Brian Cox joins the cast as a series regular, portraying the New York Ripper, while Dan Stevens takes on the role of the Five Borough Killer, who taunts police by phone. Gabriel Luna guest-stars as Ray Ballard, known as the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger.

The ensemble cast is impressive, featuring Krysten Ritter reprising her guest role as Mia LaPierre, also known as Lady Vengeance, and Desmond Harrington promoted to series regular as Joey Quinn. Nona Parker Johnson joins as Fiona Mixon, a homicide training officer and Harrison’s new love interest, with Bokeem Woodbine playing her father, Captain Mixon.

Clyde Phillips, who helmed the original ‘Dexter’ for its first four seasons, returns as showrunner and executive producer alongside Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Filming took place in New York, including Times Square, keeping the show grounded in its new setting.

The revival has gained significant momentum. The premiere of the first season attracted 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its opening week, leading to its renewal. This success explains why Paramount+ is rolling out the red carpet for the follow-up.

Additionally, the new season is set to premiere right at the end of October, a fitting time for a show centered around a killer with a code. Thurman’s presence at the event serves as a reminder that the series continues to attract star power, both on-screen and off. For fans who appreciated Charley’s cold-blooded demeanor, her appearance on the carpet is an encouraging sign that the character will play a significant role.

With two new serial killers, a returning cast, and a mysterious ex-security chief back in the mix, the new season appears poised to push Dexter into even darker territory. The only remaining question is how Charley’s journey will intersect with his.
