‘Wicker’ Star Elizabeth Debicki Dazzles at Academy Museum Gala in Custom Balmain Gown
Elizabeth Debicki has established herself as a standout on the red carpet. The Australian actress consistently showcases her statuesque figure in striking outfits, and her appearance at the Academy Museum Gala was no exception.
The 6th annual event took place on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. This year, Charlize Theron received the Icon Award, Colman Domingo was honored with the Vantage Award, and John Carpenter took home the Luminary Award, with a performance by Taylor Swift. Fashion outlets noted that this year’s carpet was more subdued compared to last year’s bold choices, with many guests opting for classic black looks enhanced by texture and softly draped silhouettes.
Debicki chose a different path, arriving in a custom Balmain halter gown crafted from a shimmering champagne-beige metallic fabric. The liquid-like lamé jersey reflected light beautifully, making her one of the most photographed attendees of the night. The gown was glamorous yet simple, perfectly embodying her style.

The gown featured a high, folded halter neck, a bare back, and soft draping across the front. At the hip, the fabric gathered into a loose knot, with a long tail cascading down the front of the skirt. A sweeping train added drama from behind, creating a striking silhouette.
Designed by Antonin Tron for Balmain, the laminated jersey provided a wet-look sheen. The minimalistic design allowed the fabric to shine, making it a true showpiece without being overdone.

Her accessories were equally thoughtful, featuring ornate gold drop earrings from Sabyasachi that contrasted beautifully with the cool metallic of her dress, along with a few slim gold rings. Debicki styled her blonde hair in vintage waves, adding an old-Hollywood softness to her look.
Opting for flats with such a long gown was a practical choice that suited her tall frame, allowing the focus to remain on the gown’s elegant sweep. This relaxed footwear balanced the formality of the train, giving the entire outfit an effortless feel.

This appearance continues a series of standout moments for Debicki. At the 2026 Met Gala in May, she wore a custom Vera Wang ivory gown with sculpted draping, a halter back, and a black sash train, complemented by a diamond tiara. Last year at the Academy Museum Gala, she opted for an Armani Privé sleek black gown featuring a sculpted corset-style bodice and metallic striped detailing.
Comparing these three outfits highlights her ability to transition between structured and soft designs. The 2025 gala look was defined by clean black lines, while this year’s gown embraced fluid shine and gentle draping, showcasing her evolving style.

Debicki wasn’t alone in showcasing a halter neckline. Emmy Rossum donned a black halter-neck gown with a high slit, while Mckenna Grace opted for a red halter gown. Debicki also posed alongside Adria Arjona, Mariana di Girolamo, and Gemma Chan, creating one of the evening’s most stylish groupings.
Amidst this backdrop, her metallic gown stood out for its unique fabric. While others opted for color or slits for impact, she relied on a single shimmering material to make her statement.
The glamour of the evening coincides with significant career momentum for Debicki. She stars alongside Brad Pitt in ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’, the David Fincher-directed sequel to ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, set to premiere on Netflix later in 2026. She shared that the shoot lasted nearly six months in Los Angeles, expressing her enjoyment of working with both Fincher and Pitt.
Additionally, she premiered ‘Wicker’ at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and recently appeared in season 2 of ‘The Night Manager’. Her portrayal of Princess Diana in ‘The Crown’ earned her an Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics Choice awards in 2024. With such a robust slate, her red carpet appearances continue to elevate her profile.
The Academy Museum Gala raises funds for the museum’s exhibitions, public screenings, and educational programs, often referred to as the Met Gala of the West. Scheduled right after the global fashion weeks, many guests arrive in runway pieces. Debicki’s custom gown fit this trend while maintaining a refreshingly simple aesthetic.
