Robert Downey Jr. Shows Off Bold New Haircut for Doctor Doom Role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe—but not as Iron Man. This time, he’s stepping into a brand-new role: the powerful villain Doctor Doom. And with this new character comes a brand-new look.
Ahead of filming for Avengers: Doomsday, Downey revealed a bold new hairstyle that has fans talking. The surprising look was spotted in a photo shared on Instagram by Alessio Caputo, a hospitality worker in the UK.
The picture was taken at a birthday party Downey threw for himself, just as filming is about to begin.

In the photo, Downey sports a hairstyle unlike anything we’ve seen from him in the MCU. His hair is now shaved on the left side, with much longer hair on top. The top is styled high and includes a few streaks of gray, giving him a dramatic and intense appearance, fitting for the role of Victor Von Doom.
This is a big change from the clean and polished style Downey usually had while playing Tony Stark. Even more interesting, his hair was shorter and more classic-looking in a recent video released on March 26, when Marvel live-streamed the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal.
That video was likely filmed weeks ago, and it seems Downey has been growing and styling his hair for this new role ever since.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed at CinemaCon 2025 that Avengers: Doomsday is just days away from starting production. Now, some recent set leaks showcase a set being prepared featuring several craters and parts of Yancy Street that were built for Fantastic Four: First Steps, suggesting that Doom will have connections to Fantastic Four’s native reality.
