Did Draco Kiss Hermione? (Movies vs. Books)
It’s no secret that fans of the series around the world have romantically linked Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger together and this is due to their fondness of the enemies-to-lovers trope. The reason why people ship them together is that they’re both smart, and talented and could have the best romance story since Pride and Prejudice.
In both the movies and the books of the Harry Potter series, Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger shared quite the rivalrous relationship with each other.
Draco and Hermione had different paths and really didn’t share many stories with one another so unfortunately, they never developed a romantic relationship resulting in them not being able to lock lips ever but they could’ve.
There were just so many barriers that stopped them from becoming more than just the rivals that they are now. The two barely interacted because they had their own story arcs to fulfill but imagine if they didn’t. Read more of this article to find out what was stopping the two from becoming the lovers the fandom wanted them to be.
How Draco’s Upbringing Ruined His Chances of Getting Together With Hermione
In my opinion, the only thing getting in the way of their love story is how Draco was brainwashed with elitism and blood superiority, similar to how nazis and overall snobbish people are raised which is why he’s so mean to Hermione, and in turn, she hates him back for being a straight-up douchebag.
Having to unlearn all of that though, Draco is always known as the boy who had no choice because he’s been pressured to be a death eater and to kill Dumbledore to prove his loyalty, otherwise, he dies along with his family.
Even in the standoff scene between Harry and Voldemort in the Deathly Hallows, the only reason why Draco moves over to the dark side is that his Mom called him to, but when his Dad did it, he stood his ground.
Clearly, it’s easy to tell that he doesn’t want to deal with any of this and who better to give him great character development than Hermione Granger (the smart dorky girl who got pretty over time, wittily banters with the guy, has compassion, and puts him in his place whenever it’s needed).
Emma Watson’s Crush on Tom Felton Resulting Into Nothing
Back in September 2012, the actress who played Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), admitted on The Jonathan Ross Show that she had feelings for Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco Malfoy.
In the interview, she said “I had a really terrible crush on Tom Felton. We love a bad guy and he was a few years older and he had a skateboard.” Funnily enough, she said the same thing a decade after in the Harry Potter reunion produced by HBO MAX.
The two are believed to never have been in a relationship with one another but it’s been reported on many fronts that both of them shared positive feelings with one another but nothing really happened between the two so any off-screen romances that could’ve been translated on-screen as ultimately dropped.
J.K. Rowling’s Hesitance of Pairing Draco and Hermione in The End
The author of the series, J.K. Rowling revealed in a past interview that she really wanted Draco and Hermione to end up together but quickly realized that it was too much of a twist to the story that it wouldn’t have felt right so she decided not to write it in the book.
She also revealed that Draco was quite fond of Hermione, and had feelings that stayed every time. Sadly, because of Draco’s background, he couldn’t express these sentiments to her and chose to tease and bully her instead in order to get her interest.
This theory going on in every Potterhead’s mind was confirmed by the author almost twenty years ago before the series even ended.
She knew herself that the ultimate finish of the book would end in Ron and Hermione getting together which basically shattered any hopes of Granger and Malfoy becoming more than what they are.
Hermione And Ron Being Together From Start to Finish
Everyone who’s read the books and watched the movies knows that Ron and Hermione are the endgame. Some people wanted Hermione to end up with Harry and a decent part of the fandom really pushed for Hermione and Draco to happen but it truly seemed like Granger and Weasley were inevitably going to end up together and they did.
They only got together in Deathly Hallows when they were both in the Chamber of Secrets and they tried to destroy a Horcrux. After they successfully destroyed it, they kissed and after the war, they ended up getting married and having kids.
After this, all hope was basically lost for the Dramione fandom and Draco carried on to pursue a different woman in the end who was none other than Astoria Greengrass.
Draco Ending up With Astoria
By the end of the series, Draco was starting to become a better person. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just this but Astoria wasn’t the pure blood supremacist so the series put up the fact that Draco sort of married Astoria as like a rebellion to Voldemort because she was essentially opposed to everything that Voldemort stood for.
It wasn’t really explained that well how their relationship came about or even what house Astoria is in. To me, Astoria Greengrass is one of those side characters that doesn’t stick out but she and Draco got together.
This relationship was more adamant in the Cursed Child play that was focused on Harry Potter’s son but it’s also shown that Draco and Astoria had a child who later fell in love with Rose Weasley so that’s basically like next-generation Hermione x Draco if you really think about it.
Draco and Hermione may not have fulfilled a lot of fans’ wishes but at least their children did.
