Nordic noir fans finally have a reason to celebrate after years of waiting for a proper adaptation of a legendary crime franchise. Netflix has officially lifted the veil on its upcoming series based on Jo Nesbø’s bestselling novels about the tormented detective Harry Hole.

The streaming giant announced that the nine-episode series, titled Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, will premiere globally on March 26, 2026. Along with the date, they released the first image from the set, giving viewers a glimpse into the dark atmosphere of the show.

Tobias Santelmann takes on the lead role of the iconic anti-hero who struggles with his own inner demons while solving gruesome crimes. He is joined by a star-studded cast including Joel Kinnaman as his corrupt nemesis Tom Waaler and Pia Tjelta as Rakel Fauke.

The story unfolds on the shadowy streets of Oslo, where a serial killer mystery forces the detective to navigate a complex game of cat and mouse. It is described not just as a whodunnit, but as a nuanced character drama exploring two police officers operating on opposite sides of the law.

Author Jo Nesbø, who adapted the script himself, expressed his enthusiasm for the project and the lead actor’s performance. He stated that seeing Santelmann bring the character to life marks an exciting new chapter for the franchise.
