NBC has officially removed a scheduled episode of ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ from its upcoming broadcast lineup. The decision comes in the wake of serious legal charges filed against actor Timothy Busfield who was slated to guest star. The episode titled ‘Corrosive’ was originally set to air this Thursday as part of the twenty-seventh season. Network executives acted immediately following reports of an arrest warrant issued against the actor in New Mexico.

The charges currently facing Busfield involve criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse. These serious allegations are connected to his time working on the set of the series ‘The Cleaning Lady’ between 2022 and 2025. Law enforcement officials in Albuquerque released information regarding the warrant over the weekend. The gravity of the situation prompted the immediate removal of his appearance from the network schedule to avoid insensitivity.

Viewers tuning in this Thursday will see a different episode in the usual time slot. NBC has moved up the airing of the episode ‘Fidelis Ad Mortem’ to fill the gap left by the sudden cancellation. This installment was originally planned for release on January 22 as the eleventh episode of the season. The network has not confirmed if the pulled episode featuring Busfield will ever be rescheduled for a later date.

The shelved episode would have marked a significant return to the franchise for the veteran actor. He previously guest starred in a Season 13 episode titled ‘Russian Brides’ where he played a character named Daniel Carter. His involvement with the Dick Wolf universe also extends behind the camera as he has directed multiple entries in the past. The pulled storyline reportedly featured him playing a judge named Warren Fels whose life is threatened by an anonymous video.

The criminal investigation centers on claims made regarding twin child actors who worked with him on the Fox drama. Reports indicate that the alleged misconduct occurred while he was directing episodes of the series during its production run. Warner Bros. Television produced ‘The Cleaning Lady’ and has since addressed their internal investigation procedures regarding the matter. The studio emphasized that the safety and well-being of cast members remain their top priority in light of such accusations.

Busfield is a well-known figure in the television industry with a career spanning several decades. He gained significant recognition for his Emmy-winning role in ‘thirtysomething’ and his prominent work on ‘The West Wing’. His recent directing credits include episodes of ‘FBI’ and ‘Chicago Med’ which are also produced by Wolf Entertainment. These sudden legal developments have effectively halted his current professional projects including this high-profile guest spot.

Please share your thoughts on the network’s decision to pull the episode in the comments.
