‘Andor’ Star Diego Luna Joins Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Remake
Diego Luna has been announced as the latest major addition to Disney’s eagerly awaited live-action ‘Tangled’ remake, and his casting has sparked excitement among fans.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Luna will portray a character specifically created for this new adaptation, meaning he will not be taking on any role from the beloved original animated film. The details surrounding this mysterious character remain tightly under wraps, adding an intriguing element to one of Disney’s most anticipated projects.
Luna joins previously confirmed leads Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, who will portray Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively, alongside Kathryn Hahn, who is set to play the villainous Mother Gothel. Hahn’s recent acclaim from ‘Agatha All Along’ and ‘The Studio’ makes her a standout addition to the cast, and Luna’s involvement further elevates the film’s profile.
Michael Gracey, known for his work on ‘The Greatest Showman’, is directing the film, which features a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor. The project is expected to embrace its musical roots, similar to the original animated version, although it is still uncertain whether Luna’s new character will have singing duties.
Luna is no stranger to the Disney universe, having received Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award nominations for his standout performance in ‘Andor’, the ‘Star Wars’ prequel series on Disney Plus. This role in ‘Tangled’ marks his first venture into Disney’s live-action film realm beyond the galaxy far, far away.
The live-action ‘Tangled’ remake has experienced a tumultuous journey to production, initially placed on indefinite hold in April 2025 after the lackluster box office results of Disney’s live-action ‘Snow White’, before resuming development in October 2025 following the success of ‘Lilo and Stitch’. Filming is currently scheduled to commence in Spain in June.
The original animated ‘Tangled’, directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, received an Academy Award nomination for its original song and grossed over $590 million worldwide, playing a significant role in revitalizing Disney’s princess genre for a new generation. With such a talented cast and Gracey’s musical expertise at the helm, expectations for the live-action adaptation are already soaring.
