First Look at ‘Jojo Rabbit’ Star Thomasin McKenzie as Audrey Hepburn
The first images of Thomasin McKenzie portraying Audrey Hepburn have surfaced, and the resemblance is so remarkable that even the most skeptical biopic fans are taking notice.
Deadline has unveiled exclusive first-look photos of McKenzie alongside Ansel Elgort, who plays fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy in ‘Dinner With Audrey’. The film is currently in production in Budapest, Hungary.
In the images, McKenzie dons a classic black dress paired with a bold red lip and Hepburn’s iconic upswept hairstyle, perfectly capturing the star’s understated elegance.
Set in Paris in 1953, the film narrates the story of a 24-year-old Hepburn on the verge of international fame, who arrives at the home of a weary young de Givenchy after being sent by director Billy Wilder to find an authentic wardrobe for her upcoming film ‘Sabrina’. Despite his initial reluctance, Hepburn’s determination wins him over, leading to a single whirlwind night that marks the start of their legendary forty-year creative partnership.
Director Abe Sylvia, recognized for ‘Palm Royale’ and ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’, is at the helm of the production, which is based on a screenplay written and executive produced by Kara Holden. Along with the first-look images, it has been confirmed that two-time Oscar nominee Miranda Richardson will portray Hepburn’s mother, Ella Van Heemstra, while Judy Greer takes on the role of famed Hollywood costume designer Edith Head. Additionally, two-time Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon is part of the cast, although his role remains undisclosed.
De Givenchy’s impact on Hepburn’s career extended far beyond ‘Sabrina’, as he continued to design her wardrobe for beloved classics like ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, ‘Funny Face’, ‘How to Steal a Million’, and ‘Charade’. The friendship that blossomed that night in Paris became one of the most celebrated creative partnerships in film and fashion history.
The first-look photography was captured by Sophie Elgort, a renowned fashion photographer whose work has graced the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and The Financial Times, and who is also the sister of star Ansel Elgort. This choice adds a poetic touch to the project, with a family member behind the lens documenting the film’s visual narrative.
‘Dinner With Audrey’ is set for theatrical release on June 16. Hyde Park International will present the film to international distributors at the Cannes Film Festival this month. With McKenzie already drawing comparisons to the real Hepburn in the initial images, excitement for this film is rapidly building.
