Pierce Brosnan Transforms into Boxing Trainer in ‘Giant’ Trailer and Fans Are Amazed
Few things capture attention in Hollywood quite like a beloved actor fully immersing themselves in a role, and Pierce Brosnan has achieved just that with the newly unveiled second trailer for ‘Giant’. The former James Bond is nearly unrecognizable behind a white combover and thick-rimmed glasses as he takes on the role of real-life Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, and this remarkable transformation has already sparked a buzz online.
‘Giant’ tells the true story of British-Yemeni boxing champion Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed and his relationship with Ingle, chronicling Naz’s journey from modest beginnings in Sheffield to becoming a world champion. The trailer begins with Brosnan’s Ingle recognizing potential in a young boy named Naseem and mentoring him, while also hinting at the conflicts that would ultimately strain their bond.
Brosnan trades his usual suave appearance for a white combover and glasses, showcasing his impressive range far beyond his days as James Bond. Fans had previously caught a glimpse of his transformation back in 2024, when set photos revealed the actor in character wearing a blue tracksuit, but the full trailer makes his commitment to the role unmistakable.
‘Giant’ premiered at the 2025 BFI London Film Festival and is set to hit select theaters and digital platforms on May 22. The film is written and directed by Rowan Athale, who shared his enthusiasm for the project with Deadline, describing it as “hilarious, heartbreaking and cinematically thrilling.”
In a separate interview with Variety, Athale revealed that Brosnan was on his “dream list” but he initially thought the actor was unattainable, until a producer encouraged him to reach out. The pitch took place in the middle of a supermarket, with Athale walking through the vegetable aisle for twenty minutes on a call he thought was with one of Brosnan’s agents. A day later, the actor was on board.
Sylvester Stallone serves as one of the film’s executive producers, with a cast that includes Amir El-Masry as the young Naseem, alongside Katherine Dow Blyton, Ali Saleh, Ghaith Saleh, and Toby Stephens. The real Brendan Ingle passed away in 2018 from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 77, having trained four world champions during his career, including Hamed, Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter, and Kell Brook.
The film delves into the unlikely and heartfelt bond between Naz and Ingle, a steel industry worker who managed a modest boxing gym in a church hall in northern England, highlighting the pivotal role their relationship played in shaping one of the sport’s most charismatic athletes. According to the official synopsis, Naseem faced significant racism and Islamophobia throughout his journey, yet he rose to become a global sporting icon both inside and outside the ring.
