Tom Hardy’s symbiote saga refuses to fade away. ‘Venom: The Last Dance’, which premiered in theaters on October 25, 2024, continues to rank among the top 10 on various streaming platforms worldwide, including iTunes, Google, Amazon, Rakuten, Play, and TOD, showcasing its impressive staying power with audiences. This resurgence, highlighted by Collider, serves as a vivid reminder that fan loyalty can often outlast any critical review.

Tom Hardy reprised his role as Eddie Brock when the film debuted strongly with a domestic opening of approximately $51 million, ultimately grossing over $478 million globally. With a production budget of around $120 million, it proved profitable for Sony, despite being the lowest-grossing installment in the trilogy. Such figures keep a film in the cultural dialogue long after the credits roll.

While critics had mixed feelings, fans largely embraced the film. It boasts a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated entries in the Sony Spider-Man Universe. Unlike its predecessor ‘Let There Be Carnage’, criticized for its rushed pacing and tonal inconsistencies, ‘The Last Dance’ is noted for its polished and confident execution, featuring Knull as a genuine cosmic-level threat rather than a mere throwaway villain.

Director Kelly Marcel, who penned all three films and made her directorial debut with this concluding chapter, had a clear vision for the story’s conclusion from the outset. Speaking to People before the film’s release, Marcel stated, “We knew it would be three. We knew it was a trilogy and we knew it would end like this from the beginning.” This long-term creative vision, developed alongside Hardy for nearly a decade, imparts an emotional weight to ‘The Last Dance’ that fans resonate with upon rewatching.

The supporting cast shines as well, with Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rhys Ifans infusing energy into the film’s expansive final act. Andy Serkis also appears as Knull, a casting decision Marcel had been quietly building towards since the production of the second film. This layered storytelling invites multiple viewings, which likely explains the current surge in streaming interest.

The entire Venom trilogy has now amassed a staggering worldwide total of nearly $1.8 billion since the first film’s release in 2018, a remarkable achievement for a franchise that critics never fully embraced but audiences consistently supported. Additionally, an animated Venom film is reportedly in pre-production with Hardy attached as a producer, indicating that the symbiote’s journey may not be over yet.

For a film once labeled divisive by the industry, ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is making a strong case for a second look. Share your thoughts in the comments about whether you believe this film deserves more recognition than it initially received.
