The highly anticipated reboot of ‘Highlander’ has officially started filming in Scotland, and fans are finally getting a sneak peek behind the scenes of the project.

Production updates and social media posts indicate that filming is taking place across various stunning Scottish locations, showcasing dramatic landscapes and historic sites. One of the standout locations is Eilean Donan Castle, which is expected to play a significant role in the film.

The reboot features Henry Cavill in the role of Connor MacLeod, originally portrayed by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 cult classic. The narrative revolves around immortal warriors who engage in battles across centuries, perfectly complemented by the film’s breathtaking Scottish scenery.

Co-star Karen Gillan has been sharing exclusive images from the set, offering fans a glimpse of the costumes, scenery, and the production’s location work. In one of her posts, she expressed how meaningful it was to film so close to home, calling it a full-circle moment while working in her native Scotland.

Gillan portrays Heather MacLeod in the film. Her posts also feature expansive landscape shots and aerial views that encapsulate the tone the reboot aims for, emphasizing atmosphere and real-world locations over studio sets.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, known for the John Wick franchise, expectations are high for the film’s action sequences. The reboot has been in development for several years, with various directors, writers, and actors attached at different times before finally moving forward under Stahelski’s direction.

The cast includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, and Marisa Abela, creating a robust ensemble around Cavill’s lead role.

The film’s development has been lengthy and complex, with numerous versions planned over the past decade. Previous attempts involved changes in directors, rewrites, and casting shifts before the current version began production.

With filming now underway, the project seems to be firmly back on track. Although no trailer or release date has been announced yet, the initial on-set glimpses from Scotland provide fans with their first real indication that the reboot is indeed happening.
