Netflix Action Thriller ‘Apex’ Dominates Charts With 60M Hours Watched
A new action movie is rapidly becoming one of the biggest hits on Netflix right now.
The film, ‘Apex’, was released on April 24 and quickly climbed to the top. According to Netflix’s official weekly numbers, it was the most-watched film worldwide between April 20 and April 26. In just a few days, it garnered 38.2 million views and surpassed 60 million hours watched, also ranking number one in the United States during that same period.

The plot follows a woman who finds herself in a perilous survival situation while traveling in Australia. She is thrust into a deadly chase with a killer, transforming her trip into a fight for survival.
A significant factor in the film’s success is its cast. Charlize Theron leads the movie, showcasing her experience from action hits like ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and ‘Atomic Blonde’. She stars alongside Taron Egerton, who remains popular with audiences following his breakout role in ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’.
The movie has also received decent reviews, currently holding a 64% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics note that while the story may not be very original, the performances and action sequences help elevate the film. Director Baltasar Kormákur has been commended for crafting strong visuals and intense moments. The film’s short runtime of about 95 minutes also makes it an easy watch.
This type of movie fits perfectly on streaming. It’s straightforward, fast-paced, and easy to dive into after a long day. On a crowded cinema schedule, it might not have stood out, but on Netflix, it has found a massive audience.
Action films have been performing exceptionally well on the platform for some time. Successful titles like ‘Extraction’ and ‘War Machine’ demonstrate that viewers consistently return to the genre. Even older films like ‘Escape Plan 2: Hades’ have recently seen strong performance.
Currently, ‘Apex’ serves as another clear example of how streaming can transform a solid action movie into a global sensation in just a few days.
