Twenty-five years is a significant milestone for any film franchise, and the wizarding world continues to thrive. The eight-film series that began with a young boy discovering his magical heritage remains one of the most viewed collections in streaming history. HBO Max is keen to maintain this momentum as the franchise approaches a landmark year.

The original ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ premiered in 2001, marking this year as its 25th anniversary. Warner Bros. Discovery is taking swift action to commemorate the occasion meaningfully. Instead of merely allowing the films to speak for themselves, the streamer is creating a dedicated space for fans to revisit them together, complete with context and insider perspectives.

In collaboration with production company Pod People, HBO Max has announced the launch of ‘Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast’, a 16-episode series set to premiere on May 19, 2026. This podcast will celebrate the emotional depth, imaginative world-building, and filmmaking artistry that have defined a generation.

British film critic and broadcaster Rhianna Dhillon will host the podcast, accompanied by a rotating cast of co-hosts from the entertainment industry. HBO Max describes the podcast as a thoughtful rewatch experience that combines high-level film recaps with in-depth discussions of key moments, standout performances, and creative choices. With over a decade of experience across platforms like BBC Radio 1 and BAFTA, Dhillon brings both professional insight and genuine fandom to her role, proudly identifying as a lifelong fan and Slytherin.

The podcast will include a recurring “Magic Makers” segment featuring behind-the-scenes guests who will share insights into the making of the films. New episodes will be released every Tuesday, starting with two episodes on May 19, each lasting approximately 60 minutes, and two episodes dedicated to each of the eight films.

The video version of the podcast will be available exclusively on HBO Max, while the audio-only version will be accessible on platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. This strategic move is expected to capitalize on and enhance viewership of the Harry Potter films, all of which are currently available on the platform.

The podcast also coincides with the upcoming HBO Original ‘Harry Potter’ TV series, with Season 1 set to premiere on Christmas 2026. This new adaptation promises to be a more faithful representation of J.K. Rowling’s novels with an entirely new cast. Observers are keenly watching how this dual-promotion will unfold, as the nostalgia for the original films could remind audiences why they remain so beloved.

For fans who have long debated which Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was the most underrated or whether Neville deserved more recognition, this podcast seems like the long-awaited deep dive the fandom has been craving. Share your thoughts in the comments about whether you’ll be tuning in when ‘Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast’ premieres on May 19.
