When Marvel and Netflix first introduced their interconnected street-level superhero universe in 2015, the excitement for a proper team-up featuring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist was palpable. This dream came to fruition in the 2017 crossover event ‘The Defenders’, but the series was cut short after just eight episodes when the Netflix era ended abruptly. Fans have been left wondering if these beloved characters would ever reunite on screen in a significant way.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 2 premiered on Disney+ on March 24, 2026, achieving an impressive 88 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and capturing strong audience interest throughout its eight-episode weekly release. The season quickly set the stage for a larger reunion, reintroducing Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones as a changed woman, now raising her daughter Danielle while grappling with unpredictable powers since her childbirth.

The season steadily built towards the moment fans had eagerly anticipated. In the final moments of the season finale, Luke Cage made his return, fully discharged from a mysterious government assignment, and reunited with Jessica and their daughter in a genuinely heartfelt scene.

Ritter later shared with The Wrap that she personally reached out to Colter to bring him back, stating, “I’m very close friends with Mike in real life, and there’s such a difference between how we are when we’re on my back porch, versus how we are when we’re in character.”

Now, the reunion is evolving beyond a brief cameo in the finale. In early April 2026, Mike Colter and Finn Jones were spotted on the set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 alongside Ritter, filming outside a Brooklyn courthouse. Behind-the-scenes footage shared by Ritter, filmed by Colter himself, offers fans an informal and warm glimpse of their real-life chemistry.

Season 3 began principal photography in March 2026 and is anticipated to wrap by July, with a Disney+ premiere aimed for March 2027.

The set photos indicate that Colter is donning the same brown suit his character wore at the conclusion of ‘Luke Cage’ season two, suggesting a deliberate nod to continuity and where Luke’s storyline left off. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has indicated that season 3 will shift away from the Mayor Fisk political narrative and return to a more grounded, street-level approach.

This marks the first occasion that all four original Defenders will appear together on screen since Netflix’s canceled crossover series in 2017, a reunion fans have long desired. The combination of Ritter’s emotional arc in season two, the finale’s promise of Luke Cage’s return, and now Finn Jones joining the mix for season three indicates that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is intentionally and methodically reconstructing everything Marvel’s street-level universe was meant to be.

Let us know in the comments whether you believe ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 will finally deliver the full Defenders reunion that Marvel fans have been dreaming about for nearly a decade.
