Brendan Fraser Signs On for New Sci-Fi Film ‘Starman’ Before ‘The Mummy 4’
Brendan Fraser is set to expand his filmography with a significant sci-fi project as he prepares for his much-anticipated return in ‘The Mummy 4’. Before stepping back into his iconic role as Rick, he has committed to a new space-themed film titled Starman.
This project is based on an original script by Josh Wakely, known for his work on animated music series like Beat Bugs and Motown Magic. Wakely will also take the helm as director, with the film described as a science fiction narrative focused on a perilous mission beyond Earth.
In Starman, Fraser will portray Tom Adams, a tech expert leading a mission to Mars. What starts as an ambitious scientific expedition quickly evolves into a survival scenario when complications arise in space. The plot centers on his fight to return home while grappling with emotional ties to loved ones on Earth.
Production on Starman is expected to begin this summer. The film is being developed by Grace: A Storytelling Company, in collaboration with producers associated with Fraser’s recent works, including Rental Family. David S. Goyer is on board as an executive producer, bringing his expertise in large-scale genre storytelling.
Despite this new venture, Fraser’s schedule is brimming with projects. He is also set to portray Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming film Pressure, slated for release in May 2026. Additionally, he will star in Diamond, a drama directed by Andy Garcia, which is set to debut at Cannes and features notable actors like Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray.
Fraser’s return to the beloved adventure franchise is a significant moment for fans. ‘The Mummy’ played a pivotal role in shaping Fraser’s career, and he is now gearing up to reunite with Rachel Weisz in the forthcoming sequel. Although the release date has experienced changes, it is currently scheduled for October 2027.
Fraser’s current slate illustrates a dynamic shift between blockbuster franchises and serious acting roles. He is adeptly navigating multiple genres, from historical drama to science fiction and action-adventure.
It’s fascinating to observe Fraser’s ability to oscillate between major franchise films and more grounded projects simultaneously. This approach keeps his career diverse and unpredictable.
