‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Season 19 Trailer Released Ahead of Premiere
‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ has demonstrated over nearly two decades that the demand for psychological crime dramas is virtually insatiable. Initially a procedural on CBS in 2005, it has evolved into one of television’s most cherished ensemble series, chronicling the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit as they tackle numerous chilling cases. After 15 seasons on CBS, the show concluded in 2020, only to be revived under the ‘Evolution’ title on Paramount+, where its serialized storytelling has found a fitting home and a dedicated new audience.
Since its launch, the series has transitioned from its procedural origins to more serialized narratives, yet fans of the original will still find the core elements intact. The Paramount+ era has built upon this foundation season after season, delving deeper into the mythology surrounding its most intriguing villain while keeping the BAU at the forefront of genuinely unsettling storylines. With over 350 episodes now available for streaming, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down.
The anticipation for what lies ahead is nearly over. Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Season 19, which is set to premiere on Thursday, May 28, kicking off with two episodes.
According to the official logline, Season 19 sees the elite profilers pushed to their limits as the BAU investigates a series of chilling new cases, while Elias Voit seeks to atone for his past. His newfound notoriety inadvertently awakens their most formidable adversary yet, a killer known only as The Fan, characterized as precise, calculating, and relentlessly dangerous.
Showrunner Erica Messer has confirmed that Voit will appear in every episode of Season 19, ensuring that his complex dynamic with the BAU remains central to the storyline. Additionally, the new season boasts an impressive lineup of guest stars.
Joining the cast are Connor Storrie from ‘Heated Rivalry’, Clark Gregg of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ fame, Yvette Nicole Brown and Paget Brewster reuniting for the first time since their ‘Community’ days, and Jeri Ryan, known for her iconic role in ‘Star Trek: Voyager’.
The emotional depth of the season will extend beyond the villain-of-the-week format. A.J. Cook shared with TV Insider that her character JJ’s grief will continue to unfold throughout the season, emphasizing that the show will explore various phases of grief, which will not be resolved quickly or neatly, as that is not how grief typically operates.
Meanwhile, showrunner Erica Messer has hinted that Season 19 will shine a light on Adam Rodriguez’s Alvez, noting that there were no dry eyes in the room during the screening of the second episode.
On the same day it announced the Season 19 premiere date, Paramount+ also revealed the renewal of ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ for a 20th season, slated for 2027. Season 19 will consist of ten episodes, with new installments releasing weekly on Thursdays, culminating in the season finale on July 23. For a franchise this deep into its journey, the momentum is truly remarkable.
