‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Star Anne Hathaway Shares Updates on ‘The Princess Diaries 3’

Anne Hathaway has provided an exciting update on ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ while also promoting ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hathaway confirmed that work on the third installment of ‘The Princess Diaries’ is ongoing, although it has not yet entered production.

She stated, “One hundred percent, we’re constantly working on it.” Hathaway explained that while progress continues, other projects have caused some delays.

According to Hathaway, the buzz surrounding ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has influenced the timeline. She mentioned that the project “cropped up unexpectedly and took over the space,” complicating the ability to focus on both films simultaneously during the 2025 filming schedules.

She emphasized that the aim is still to produce the next ‘Princess Diaries’ movie once current commitments are fulfilled, but she clarified that there is no official green light from the studio yet.

Hathaway said, “Everybody wants it,” and confirmed that writing is still progressing behind the scenes. She described the team as “chipping away at the script.”

Hathaway also discussed the pressure of reprising beloved roles, stating, “If I learned anything from [The Devil Wears Prada 2], it’s that expectations are very, very high, and if you’re going to do it, you have to knock it out of the park.”

Meryl Streep, who joined her during the interview, concurred, adding, “You’ve got to wait for the right script.”

The concept of a third ‘Princess Diaries’ sequel has been in discussions for years, first mentioned in 2016 after director Garry Marshall spoke about plans before his passing, which temporarily halted development.

Subsequent updates over the years indicated that the project remained alive in various forms, with Hathaway consistently expressing her willingness to return if the story was compelling. By 2024, she confirmed that discussions were progressing positively, and Disney was still interested in moving ahead.

Most recently, Hathaway confirmed her return as Mia, although no filming schedule has been disclosed yet.

For now, ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ is actively in development, but fans will need to wait for an official start to production.
