‘The Boys’ Star Karl Urban Discusses What He Considers the Worst Superpower
Karl Urban recently shared his perspective on what he believes to be the least impressive superpower, igniting discussions among fans of superhero films and series.
His remarks came during a conversation related to ‘The Boys’, the popular superhero series in which Urban portrays Billy Butcher. While discussing various powers depicted in comics and movies, Urban humorously suggested that heroes who rely on bow-and-arrow skills might possess one of the less remarkable abilities when stacked against gods, aliens, and those who can fly or shoot lasers.
Urban was careful not to completely dismiss those characters, stating, “No disrespect to those guys.” Despite the jest, his comments quickly gained traction online, especially since some of the most beloved comic book heroes fit into that category.

Marvel fans quickly thought of Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, in the DC universe, Green Arrow is a well-known archer, famously played by Stephen Amell in the ‘Arrow’ series.
Both characters are highly skilled fighters and tacticians, but unlike heroes such as Superman, Thor, or Scarlet Witch, they lack supernatural powers. Instead, they rely on training, precision, special arrows, and quick thinking.
This is partly why some perceive their abilities as “lame” when compared to more powerful heroes. In universes filled with magic, flying heroes, super strength, and reality-altering powers, arriving with a bow can initially seem underwhelming. Fans often joke about the oddity of expecting archers to survive battles against colossal monsters, robots, or cosmic threats.
Conversely, many viewers argue that characters like Hawkeye and Green Arrow are compelling precisely because they are more grounded. They are ordinary humans striving to endure in impossible situations. Unlike heroes born with powers, they depend on skill, discipline, and strategy.
‘The Boys’ itself often plays with these concepts by poking fun at superhero stereotypes and questioning which powers would genuinely be beneficial in real life. Urban’s comments align seamlessly with the show’s comedic style.
Some fans online concurred with him, joking that archery-based heroes would likely struggle in a genuine superhuman conflict. Others defended those characters, emphasizing that Hawkeye and Green Arrow have thrived for decades due to their intelligence and combat skills, not because of flashy powers.
Although Urban’s response was clearly lighthearted, it sparked a renewed debate about what truly makes a superhero appealing. Is it raw power, or is it how a character utilizes the abilities they possess?
