The BAFTA TV Awards held in London celebrated a remarkable evening for the Netflix series Adolescence, with Stephen Graham and his team making significant history at the event.

This information comes from BAFTA coverage and reporting by Deadline, which tracked the winners at the Royal Festival Hall.

Stephen Graham secured the award for Leading Actor after his eighth nomination across both film and television. This win was long-awaited for the actor, who had been nominated numerous times before without winning.

The series Adolescence, co-created by Graham and Jack Thorne, also had a successful night, taking home multiple awards, including Limited Drama. Young actor Owen Cooper and actress Christine Tremarco were recognized with supporting awards for their outstanding performances.

The series has already achieved significant international success, ranking as Netflix’s second most-watched English-language show of all time. It has also excelled during awards season, winning accolades at the Emmys, Golden Globes, Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, and BAFTA Craft Awards prior to this ceremony.

In addition to Adolescence, other shows also celebrated wins at the BAFTA TV Awards. The BBC’s Celebrity Traitors and Prime Video’s Last One Laughing both garnered multiple awards throughout the night.

Actor Steve Coogan won in the comedy category and briefly discussed his work and projects like The White Lotus during his red carpet appearance.

Apple TV+ series The Studio received the Best International award, with actor Seth Rogen dedicating the win to Catherine O’Hara during his acceptance speech.

In the current affairs category, the documentary Gaza: Doctors Under Attack won an award after being dropped by the BBC and later picked up by Channel 4. Producer Ben de Pear used his acceptance speech to voice concerns about this decision, adding tension to the evening.

Hosted by comedian Greg Davies, the ceremony took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall and featured major names from the entertainment industry, including Colin Firth, Aimee Lou Wood, Taron Egerton, and Matt Smith.

The event was closely monitored by the BBC and BAFTA following recent controversies in the industry, making this year’s ceremony a pivotal moment for British television.
