Box office projections for Marvel’s upcoming crossover film are already under scrutiny, even though Avengers: Doomsday is still a while from its release. According to data from Polymarket, traders are assessing how the film might stack up against other significant releases anticipated in 2026.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has historically dominated the global box office, achieving a level of success unmatched by most franchises. Throughout the 2010s, the series of interconnected superhero films became a cultural phenomenon, amassing over $18 billion during that decade. Much of this triumph stemmed from the Avengers films, which featured multiple heroes in large-scale crossover events that consistently shattered box office records.

However, since Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s box office performance has been more inconsistent compared to its previous heights. The studio is now gearing up for its next major ensemble film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to reintroduce several key characters from the MCU. Notably, Robert Downey Jr. is returning in a new role as the villain Doctor Doom.

Despite the excitement surrounding the project, Polymarket traders currently predict that another superhero film will outshine it at the 2026 box office. The market is leaning toward Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the likely top contender.

Spider-Man has long been one of Marvel’s most beloved characters globally, with previous films achieving remarkable commercial success. The latest installment in the franchise nearly reached the $2 billion mark worldwide, reinforcing the character’s strong box office reputation. Early buzz for the upcoming film has also been significant, with reports of substantial engagement surrounding its first trailer.

Timing is viewed as a crucial element in these predictions. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set for a July 2026 release, allowing most of its theatrical run to occur within that calendar year. In contrast, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to debut later in the year, meaning some of its box office earnings may fall outside the 2026 tracking period utilized by Polymarket.

According to Polymarket’s market rules, only domestic box office earnings within the 2026 calendar year will count toward the final outcome. This stipulation has affected how traders are placing their bets on both films.

Currently, Polymarket data indicates that Spider-Man: Brand New Day holds a significant lead in expected box office performance for 2026, while Avengers: Doomsday lags behind by a considerable margin. The gap has widened in recent months as sentiment has increasingly favored the Spider-Man film.
