‘Wildwood’ Teaser Trailer Unveiled as Laika Promises Its Most Ambitious Film Yet
Laika has unveiled the first complete story trailer for its upcoming stop-motion animated film ‘Wildwood’, offering fans an in-depth look at what the studio claims is its most ambitious project to date.
This information comes from Laika’s official trailer release and studio announcements shared alongside the teaser. The film follows the studio’s earlier technical animation showcase released in October 2025, which first provided viewers with a glimpse of the scale and detail behind the production.
‘Wildwood’ is based on the 2011 fantasy novel by Colin Meloy, featuring illustrations by Carson Ellis. The narrative centers around a young girl named Prue McKeel, portrayed by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who ventures into a strange and perilous magical forest to rescue her baby brother Mac, played by Kellan Tetlow.
The trailer reveals that the forest is fraught with danger. Prue quickly encounters bizarre creatures, including an army of dogs that behave like humans. She also confronts a mysterious witch who seems to have her own agenda regarding Prue and her brother. The world depicted in the footage is dark, intricate, and filled with movement, crafted using Laika’s signature stop-motion style.
The trailer also suggests that Prue will not be alone on her quest. She is seen meeting a masked rider on horseback, as well as her classmate Curtis, a boy who can cry black ink. These characters appear to assist her in navigating the strange realm she has entered.
The film is directed by Travis Knight, recognized for his work on ‘Bumblebee’ and previous Laika projects. The studio is renowned for its stop-motion films such as ‘Coraline’ and ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’, and this new endeavor continues that legacy with even greater scale and detail.
Laika has also emphasized the exceptional craftsmanship behind the movie. In earlier production details, the studio disclosed that one of the large puppet models featured in the film required approximately 9,000 individually crafted feathers. This illustrates the extensive manual labor invested in every aspect of the animation.
The voice cast for ‘Wildwood’ is notably extensive. In addition to Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Kellan Tetlow, the film features Mahershala Ali, Amandla Stenberg, Maya Erskine, Angela Bassett, Carey Mulligan, Charlie Day, and Jake Johnson.
Prior to the trailer release, Laika had already described the film as its “most ambitious cinematic journey yet,” according to studio marketing materials. The new footage supports that assertion, showcasing a much larger and more intricate world than anything the studio has previously created.
The movie is currently scheduled for theatrical release on October 23. With the first full trailer now available, fans finally have a clearer understanding of the scale, tone, and narrative Laika is aiming for with this new fantasy adventure.
