Eric Kripke Discusses ‘Gen V’ Crossover in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 After Fan Reactions
Eric Kripke has addressed the ‘Gen V’ crossover in The Boys Season 5, responding to whether he would have approached it differently had he known the spin-off would not continue.
His remarks follow the brief return of Marie Moreau and Jordan Li in one of the season’s concluding episodes.
Kripke noted that the primary focus remained on the conclusion of The Boys itself, and the team aimed to provide the ‘Gen V’ characters with at least a fleeting moment within the broader narrative. He acknowledged that, in retrospect, there might have been opportunities to establish more closure or clearer direction for the characters’ futures.
“This is The Boys finale, and they deserve to have their story told,” Kripke stated. He mentioned that they contemplated ways to better prepare viewers for the next steps involving the spin-off characters.
“But maybe there would have been a way through dialogue or something to hint at something with a little more finality. To prepare everyone, we leave the Gen V kids heading off into more story… Even in Episode 7, we’re hinting at some really interesting notions of issues and problems that Marie still has to deal with because we were hoping we could.” He said.
The crossover appears briefly in the episode, featuring Marie Moreau and Jordan Li in a short scene. They converse with Starlight and Mother’s Milk, providing an update on events involving “Oh Father” and Vought Studios. The interaction is abruptly cut short when Starlight instructs them to leave and go into hiding, indicating her belief that they are not yet ready to assist in the battle against Homelander.
This scene has sparked discussion among fans, as it seems to underutilize characters who were anticipated to have a more significant role. In Gen V, Marie was introduced as one of the most formidable new supes, possessing blood manipulation abilities that distinguished her. Some viewers speculated that she could emerge as a pivotal figure in the final showdown against Homelander in the main series.
That notion is indirectly challenged during the episode. Mother’s Milk questions her reputation, remarking, “I heard that you’re like the chosen one and have Homelander-level strength or some shit,” to which Marie responds, “Well, reports of my awesomeness have been greatly exaggerated.”

Viewer reactions online have been mixed. Social media discussions and fan commentary reveal that some were disappointed by the crossover’s brevity after earlier expectations of a more substantial role. Others viewed the moment as a reflection of the unpredictable nature of the story and even as intentional commentary on how swiftly storylines can evolve.
With only one episode remaining in The Boys Season 5, all eyes are on how the main story will wrap up. It remains uncertain if any ‘Gen V’ characters will return in the finale or appear in future projects, though Kripke has hinted that their stories may not be entirely concluded yet.
