Alec Baldwin Responds to Elon Musk’s Criticism of Lupita Nyong’o in ‘The Odyssey’ ‘She Is the Most Beautiful Woman in the World’

Alec Baldwin has addressed Elon Musk’s recent remarks regarding Lupita Nyong’o’s casting in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’, adding his voice to the ongoing online discussion about the role.

On May 15, Baldwin, 68, posted a photo of Nyong’o on Instagram, directly responding to Musk’s comments questioning her suitability for the role of Helen of Troy, who is described in mythology as “the most beautiful woman in the world.”

In his Instagram caption, Baldwin firmly disagreed with Musk’s perspective, stating, “Dear Elon… but she IS the most beautiful woman in the world…Alec.” His wife, Hilaria Baldwin, also expressed her support in the comments with fire and heart emojis.

The debate ignited after it was confirmed that Nyong’o will portray Helen of Troy in ‘The Odyssey’, along with the role of Helen’s sister Clytemnestra. Director Christopher Nolan verified the casting in a recent interview with Time magazine, which elaborated on how these characters fit into the narrative.

Helen of Troy is a pivotal figure in Greek mythology, closely associated with the events of the Trojan War. In Nolan’s adaptation of ‘The Odyssey’, she will appear alongside other mythological characters, including Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and Telemachus, portrayed by Tom Holland. Clytemnestra, also played by Nyong’o, is the wife of Agamemnon and features in another significant mythological storyline related to the war.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, has consistently criticized the casting since rumors first surfaced online. He previously accused Nolan of “losing integrity” over the decision, which has led to further backlash and public discourse across social media platforms.

Others have come to Nyong’o’s defense. Actress and host Whoopi Goldberg addressed the controversy on ‘The View’, asserting that Nyong’o is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful women in the world and questioning the online criticism.

Nyong’o has been associated with the project since late 2024 when her involvement was first reported. Although she has not yet appeared in any trailers, her role has now been officially confirmed.

‘The Odyssey’ is directed by Christopher Nolan and boasts a large ensemble cast, including Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Elliot Page, Charlize Theron, and Mia Goth. The film is set to hit theaters on July 17.
