Chace Crawford Teases Satisfying Ending for The Deep in ‘The Boys’ Series Finale
In the concluding season of ‘The Boys’, Chace Crawford reveals that his character The Deep is approaching an ending that brings everything “full circle.” In an interview with Collider, Crawford elaborates on how the character’s long journey of loyalty, failure, and humiliation culminates in the series finale, and why he believes fans will appreciate the conclusion.
Crawford mentioned that The Deep’s ending feels like a return to the character’s origins. He characterized it as a “full circle” conclusion, particularly concerning the character’s extensive history in the series and the repercussions he ultimately faces.
During the interview, he noted that The Deep has spent the majority of the series seeking approval, particularly from Homelander. Over time, that loyalty deteriorates. By Season 5, Homelander no longer has any use for him, leaving The Deep without status, protection, or respect.
Crawford stated that Homelander completely shuts him out in Episode 7, marking a pivotal moment for the character. In that instance, The Deep attempts one last effort to remain relevant, but it ultimately fails. Crawford described this as the moment he realizes that the relationship he valued was never genuine.
He expressed, “It’s this heartbreaking thing for The Deep.” He added that the character only comprehends by the end that Homelander never truly cared for him.
As the season progresses, The Deep also endures further public humiliation. He is banned from the ocean, which Crawford noted was one of the most challenging moments for the character. He explained that losing access to the water feels like a complete loss of identity.
He remarked, “Banning him from the water was probably the biggest for him. That was probably the biggest moment for The Deep.”

Crawford also discussed one of the more unique scenes in the season, where The Deep interacts with a hammerhead shark named Xander, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. He described the filming experience as peculiar since he was acting alone with visual effects elements.
He stated, “We shot that on this dock, and I was just acting to this green tennis ball in the water.” He also mentioned that hearing Samuel L. Jackson’s voice in the final cut made the scene significantly more memorable.
The actor also reflected on a later moment where The Deep is forced to witness someone drowning while he is unable to enter the water to assist. Instead, he is left shouting instructions from a distance. Crawford noted that this moment illustrates how far the character has fallen and how his previous choices have led to tangible consequences.
He explained that The Deep has spent most of his life evading responsibility, but he is now compelled to confront it. According to him, the character still perceives himself as a victim even as everything collapses around him.
He said The Deep has never truly faced consequences before, but now everything is catching up with him.
Crawford believes that the story’s ending will resonate with viewers. He stated that it has been a long time coming for the character to reach this point after years of poor decisions and self-deception. He described the conclusion as something earned through all that has transpired in the series thus far.
He concluded, “I think the fans are going to be really pleased, to be honest, and I think it was a long time coming.”
The Deep’s final arc is not focused on redemption but rather on consequences. It portrays a character who never evolved finally confronting the results of his actions.
