Kristen Stewart Plans to Direct New Film by Year’s End for YouTube Release
Kristen Stewart has outlined a clear vision for her next directorial project, aiming to step away from the conventional studio system entirely. While promoting Full Phil, she shared that she has two new films in mind and intends to start shooting one by the end of the year, focusing on smaller projects that could be released directly on YouTube.
During the discussion, Stewart primarily focused on her aspirations as a director and her desire to revolutionize how she releases her work. She emphasized a shift away from the traditional studio model towards fast, independent filmmaking with a trusted team.
Stewart expressed her determination to move quickly after fulfilling her current acting obligations, stating that she is eager to avoid lengthy waits for financing or approvals before embarking on a film.
She remarked, “The two next films that I want to make are very, very clear to me. I want to make one by the end of the year after I work on this Amazon show and then next year I’m going to be shooting in April this other thing that I have in mind.”
Her current focus is on speed and independence, rather than prolonged production timelines. Stewart conveyed her frustration with the sluggishness of the system and the challenges of getting smaller, more experimental films produced through traditional avenues.
She elaborated on her vision of creating something small and quick with trusted collaborators, avoiding the need for large budgets or lengthy approval processes. She is seeking a more straightforward approach to getting her work made and seen.
Stewart stated, “My goal is to make something for really nothing with my friends before the end of the year and put it on fucking YouTube.”
This concept is central to her upcoming plans, as she aims to take control of her projects and eliminate the pressures typically associated with Hollywood filmmaking. For her, YouTube represents not just a fallback option but a direct channel to reach audiences without interference.
She also mentioned that any revenue generated from the project would be reinvested into her next film, establishing a self-sustaining cycle. The objective is to continuously create work rather than waiting for large studio-backed opportunities.
Stewart was candid about her dissatisfaction with the current system, expressing a preference for independent work over waiting years between projects. She still holds a deep love for filmmaking but seeks to approach it in a manner that feels more immediate and personal.
Her remarks indicate a significant shift in her career trajectory, emphasizing control, speed, and direct distribution rather than adhering to traditional Hollywood release strategies.
