Markiplier’s Sci-Fi Horror Movie ‘Iron Lung’ Release Date and Streaming Details
Markiplier’s sci-fi horror film ‘Iron Lung’ is set to debut on YouTube later this month. As reported by Deadline, the filmmaker and online creator announced during a Cannes panel that the movie will be available on YouTube on May 31 as an exclusive release.
Viewers will have the option to purchase the film directly through YouTube. During the Cannes discussion, which was moderated by Deadline, Markiplier shared his reasoning for choosing this platform for the release.
“I’m pretty loyal to it,” he stated, emphasizing that YouTube is his home platform after building his career there over the years.
‘Iron Lung’ first premiered in theaters on January 30 and quickly emerged as one of the year’s biggest surprise hits. The film has grossed over $50 million worldwide, despite a modest production budget of only $4 million. Reports indicate that the film had minimal traditional marketing and primarily reached audiences through Markiplier’s extensive online fanbase.
The film was written, directed, and produced by Markiplier, who also stars in it. It is inspired by the indie horror game created by David Szymanski.
Set in a dark post-apocalyptic future, the story unfolds after an event known as “The Quiet Rapture,” during which stars and habitable planets mysteriously vanish. The narrative follows a prisoner trapped inside a damaged submarine named the Iron Lung, as he navigates a terrifying ocean of blood on a distant moon.
The official synopsis describes the film as “a descent into dread that becomes as psychological as it is physical.”

The cast features Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock. Markiplier managed the U.S. release independently and later collaborated with Piece of Magic Entertainment to distribute the film across several international markets in Europe.
During the Cannes panel, Markiplier also briefly discussed his future plans, humorously noting that he does not want to rush into another major film project immediately.
“Next year I’ll be working on something,” he mentioned, adding that he intends to take at least a year off from feature filmmaking to spend more time with his wife.
