Starz has unveiled the trailer for the fifth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, picking up right from the intense cliffhanger that concluded season four.

The previous season ended with a shocking moment where Kanan, portrayed by MeKai Curtis, had a gun aimed at his mother Raquel “Raq” Thomas, played by Patina Miller. The new trailer confirms her return and indicates that the conflict between mother and son is far from resolved. Tensions escalate as Kanan blames Raq for the deaths of his best friend and girlfriend, pushing their relationship into perilous territory.

In season five, Kanan continues his ascent in the Southside drug scene alongside Breeze, played by Shameik Moore. The official synopsis reveals that Kanan is fully embracing the ruthless persona that fans recognize from the original Power series, where the character is later depicted by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. This season focuses on his transformation and his commitment to the criminal life that shapes his future.

The synopsis also emphasizes that the rift between Kanan and Raq has reached a critical point. Any hope of mending their relationship is lost, and a confrontation between them appears inevitable. As alliances shift within the criminal underworld, Kanan continues to build his power base with Breeze, setting the stage for significant fallout across the Southside. Other ongoing storylines will include conflicts involving Unique and the Thomas family, alongside rising mafia pressures in the background.

The trailer also showcases how this final season ties into the broader Power universe. It will seamlessly lead into the upcoming prequel series Power: Origins, furthering the franchise timeline and expanding the backstories of key characters.

The series boasts a large ensemble cast, including London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Joey Bada$$, Hailey Kilgore, Wendell Pierce, Erika Woods, Tony Danza, Joe Pantoliano, and Leslie Grossman.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan was created and is showrun by Sascha Penn. The series is executive produced by Courtney A. Kemp, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Mark Canton, and Chris Selak, with production by Lionsgate Television for Starz.

Season five of Raising Kanan premieres on June 12, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays.
