‘The Testaments’ Season 2 Renewed at Hulu After Achieving Streaming Milestone
Hulu has officially renewed The Testaments for a second season while the first season is still airing and attracting impressive viewership numbers. This announcement comes as the The Handmaid’s Tale spin-off continues its debut run, steadily growing its audience across Hulu and Disney+.
The Testaments features performances from Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, and Ann Dowd, and is created by Bruce Miller, who also developed The Handmaid’s Tale. The series is produced by MGM Television and 20th Television. The renewal was confirmed after the show reached its eighth episode out of a planned ten-episode first season.
According to streaming figures shared by the company, the series has already surpassed 45 million hours streamed globally. The show has also demonstrated consistent growth week over week. The fourth episode recorded a 20 percent increase in viewership compared to the premiere after its first day online. Later, episode eight experienced an even more significant jump, with its first-day views rising 76 percent compared to the premiere episode.
The series first launched on April 8 with a three-episode release. Since then, new episodes have continued to drive higher engagement, particularly as word of mouth builds around the story and characters. Episode nine is set to release on May 20, while the season finale will arrive on May 27.
Set in the same universe as The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments unfolds in Gilead and follows a younger generation growing up under its strict regime. The narrative centers on Agnes, portrayed by Chase Infiniti, and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday. Their lives become intertwined as they both navigate the control and expectations of Gilead’s society.
Ann Dowd reprises her role as Aunt Lydia, a pivotal character in the series who oversees the training of young girls within a rigid educational system designed to shape their future roles. The show delves into how Agnes and Daisy form a bond that gradually challenges the world they are being raised in.

Creator Bruce Miller developed the series based on Margaret Atwood’s novel The Testaments, which continues the narrative set in the world of The Handmaid’s Tale. Miller also serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside a large team of producers from MGM Television and 20th Television.
The series features a supporting cast that includes Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien. Elisabeth Moss also makes a guest appearance, reprising her role as June Osborne from The Handmaid’s Tale.
While the first season is still unfolding, Hulu’s early renewal reflects confidence in the series’ performance. With strong streaming numbers and increasing viewership from episode to episode, The Testaments is poised to continue its story beyond its debut season.
The show stands out as one of Hulu’s major drama releases of the year, and its growth indicates that the audience for the Handmaid’s Tale universe is still expanding.
