Brandon Sanderson’s ‘Skyward’ TV Series Adaptation Announced
Brandon Sanderson’s sci-fi tale ‘Skyward’ is officially set to be adapted into a TV series. This exciting news was reported by Deadline, revealing that Tomorrow Studios will take the lead on the project. The studio is also recognized for adapting popular titles like ‘One Piece’ and ‘Let the Right One In.’
Key creators are already attached to the project. Author Brandon Sanderson will co-write the pilot episode alongside Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, known for their work on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Dollhouse.’ All three will also serve as executive producers, collaborating with Tomorrow Studios leaders Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.
In a statement shared through Deadline, Sanderson expressed his enthusiasm for the adaptation, noting that it has been a long-anticipated project for him.
“I’ve been working on the Skyward series for nearly a decade, and to have a partner like Tomorrow Studios to help bring this story to television is a dream come true,” Sanderson remarked.
Adelstein also expressed his excitement for the series, describing Sanderson’s universe as rich with profound ideas and compelling characters.
“Brandon has created a thrilling universe where courage, curiosity, and determination to challenge what we think can change the fate of entire worlds. The vision that he, Jed, and Maurissa have for a television adaptation is ‘defiant to the end,’” he added.

‘Skyward’ is the first installment in a larger sci-fi series called the Cytoverse. Set in a distant future, the story unfolds on a planet perpetually under attack by alien forces known as the Krell. It centers on a teenage girl named Spensa, who aspires to become a fighter pilot and defend her home, despite widespread skepticism.
Originally published in 2018, the book quickly gained popularity among readers and expanded into a full series with several sequels and related stories. This includes multiple novels and novellas that further develop the world and its characters.
The TV adaptation is expected to primarily focus on the first book for the time being. As of now, no streaming platform or network has been confirmed, according to Deadline’s report. However, the involvement of Sanderson and seasoned TV producers indicates that the project is being meticulously crafted from the ground up.
This announcement arrives during a busy period for Sanderson’s adaptations. His broader fantasy universe, known as the Cosmere, has already been secured for future film and TV projects by Apple TV, highlighting the increasing interest in bringing his literary works to life on screen.
