Jennifer Lopez Responds to ‘Off Campus’ Recreating Her Iconic Versace Jungle Dress
The Versace jungle dress is once again making headlines, and Jennifer Lopez has taken notice. The pop star shared her excitement online after a scene from Prime Video’s ‘Off Campus’ went viral.
In the show, actress Mika Abdalla dons a recreation of Lopez’s iconic green Versace dress from the 2000 Grammys. This memorable moment occurs during a costume party scene in the second episode, where Abdalla’s character, Allie Hayes, enters the party just as Lopez’s hit song “On the Floor” begins to play. She expresses her surprise and joy, exclaiming, “Oh my god, wait! This is me!” while dancing to the music.
The scene quickly gained traction online, catching Lopez’s eye. She took to X to share her thoughts, writing, “love this shooooww,” along with the viral clip that fans were buzzing about.
Mika Abdalla discussed the process of recreating the dress in an interview with Betches UK. She detailed how the outfit was meticulously crafted from scratch, requiring multiple fittings before it was ready. Abdalla shared, “My first fitting was like, put on this nude leotard and we’re going to cut it up and pin all this s—t to you. It was like five fittings. It was insane.” She felt fully prepared in the outfit and ready to perform the scene.
The original Versace dress worn by Lopez at the 2000 Grammys remains one of the most iconic fashion moments in pop culture history. Its immense popularity even contributed to the creation of Google Image Search. Lopez revisited the look in 2019 when she walked the Versace runway in a modern version of the dress during Milan Fashion Week.
Lopez has previously discussed the extensive preparation involved in wearing the original outfit, emphasizing that everything was securely fastened for her performance. She stated, “There was never any danger of that. I was so securely stuck into that thing that there was gonna be no mishaps.”

‘Off Campus,’ the series showcasing the recreated dress, is based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series. It premiered on Prime Video on May 13 and follows a college romance narrative filled with drama, humor, and relationships.
This viral moment has successfully bridged two generations of pop culture fashion, bringing Lopez’s legendary dress back into the limelight through a TV series that has clearly resonated with her in a delightful way.
