Fans Are Excited About the New ‘Backrooms’ Popcorn Bucket
A newly unveiled promotional popcorn bucket for the upcoming film ‘Backrooms’ is making waves online. Regal Cinemas shared this news, announcing a unique partnership with A24 to promote the movie ahead of its theatrical debut on May 29.
Breaking from tradition, Regal is offering fans the chance to print their own ‘Backrooms’ popcorn container at home in full scale. The design features the Async Hazmat Suit, a key element in the film and part of the lore inspired by the popular creepypasta and Kane Pixels web series.

This innovative idea has quickly gained traction, blending marketing with fan engagement. Regal confirmed that anyone who prints the container at full size and brings it to a participating Regal theater during opening weekend will receive a complimentary small popcorn. This promotion aims to build anticipation for the film’s release.
Additionally, Regal is hosting a giveaway for a hand-painted version of the popcorn bucket. Fans wishing to enter the contest must follow Regal’s official Instagram account and comment on the promotional post regarding the popcorn container.
The design is inspired by the Async Hazmat Suit, which is worn by Async researchers exploring the perilous areas within the mysterious dimension known as the Backrooms. These suits are essential for protection against various environmental hazards.
Different suit variants exist in the lore, including yellow, green, and combat types. The yellow suit is predominantly used by researchers and features oxygen tanks and an M17 gas mask. This concept has been creatively adapted into the popcorn bucket, transforming a fictional survival suit into a collectible movie item.
‘Backrooms’ is directed by Kane Parsons, marking his feature film debut. The movie is based on his viral YouTube series and the broader Backrooms internet myth. The plot follows Dr. Mary Kline, a therapist searching for her missing patient, Clark, who has vanished into another dimension.
The film features a talented cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark and Renate Reinsve as Dr. Mary Kline. Other cast members include Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, Avan Jogia, and Robert Bobroczkyi. Produced by A24 alongside several major production companies, it is described as a science fiction horror film with significant psychological elements.
The ‘Backrooms’ concept originated as an online creepypasta and gained immense popularity through Kane Parsons’ YouTube series. This success ultimately led to a feature film adaptation, making Parsons one of the youngest directors collaborating with A24. Filming took place in Vancouver under the working title ‘Effigy’, concluding in August 2025.
Over 30,000 square feet of set space was constructed to recreate the eerie ambiance of the Backrooms. Reports indicate that the set was so expansive and labyrinthine that crew members occasionally struggled to find their way during production.
With its unique popcorn bucket promotion and a strong online following, ‘Backrooms’ is already attracting attention before its release. The Regal collaboration is anticipated to be one of the most talked-about movie tie-ins of the year, especially among fans of internet horror culture.
