Pete Davidson and Gal Gadot Star in AI Movie ‘Bitcoin’ Roasting Bezos and Zuckerberg
A new AI-driven film titled Bitcoin is generating buzz for its unique cast, innovative use of artificial intelligence, and its audacious portrayal of real-life tech and political figures. Directed by Doug Liman, the project is currently in post-production, with sales being managed at the Cannes market by 193, according to industry reports.
The film features Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fisher in prominent roles. It tells a fictional tale about a man who claims to have invented Bitcoin, a declaration that puts him at risk and ignites a worldwide pursuit involving influential figures from technology, politics, and finance.
What sets this film apart is its incorporation of AI-enhanced representations of actual public figures. Characters resembling Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, Eric Trump, and even a reference to Elon Musk are woven into the narrative.
As reported by entertainment sources, these characters were initially portrayed by actors on set and later modified using AI technology to more closely resemble their real-life counterparts. The production reportedly obtained approvals for these AI modifications from the actors involved.
These figures serve as supporting characters rather than the main leads, yet they are crucial in shaping the film’s satirical universe. Among the public figures, Mark Zuckerberg’s character reportedly has the most dialogue. Eric Trump is depicted promoting “Trump coin” and appears in scenes related to cryptocurrency schemes, while other global leaders and tech moguls illustrate the power dynamics surrounding digital currency and financial authority.
According to production notes, the film combines satire with high-stakes drama. A central theme revolves around a global race to uncover the truth behind Bitcoin’s origins, loosely inspired by the real-world controversy surrounding Craig Wright, a computer scientist who has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. These claims have faced significant skepticism, and a British High Court ruling in 2024 dismissed his assertion of having created Bitcoin.
The script was penned by Nick Schenk, known for Gran Torino, and produced by Ryan Kavanaugh and Lawrence Grey. Liman is also employing his AI-based filmmaking technique called PECAN, alongside Kavanaugh’s ACME AI technology. The production utilized a “markerless performative capture stage” instead of traditional location shooting, enabling the entire film to be completed in roughly 20 days.
Liman has indicated in production discussions that the use of AI technology significantly cuts costs. The budget is estimated at around $70 million, considerably lower than the typical Hollywood productions that can soar to $200–300 million.
Pete Davidson portrays blockchain investor Calvin Ayre, while Gal Gadot and Casey Affleck also play central roles in the story. The film is designed as a fast-paced satire exploring the intersection of money, influence, and digital power in contemporary society.
One producer involved in the project described it as “an exciting and gripping story, set in the mysterious and high-stakes real world of crypto.” This quote encapsulates the film’s effort to blend real-world issues with fictional narratives.
Although the movie is still in post-production, it has already ignited conversations due to its use of AI-generated likenesses of real-world figures and its unconventional production methods. With its blend of satire, technology, and controversial personalities, Bitcoin is poised to be one of the most distinctive releases associated with AI filmmaking to date.
