Action films based on video games have become a significant part of Hollywood’s release calendar, often transitioning swiftly from theaters to digital platforms. Fans are now accustomed to eagerly anticipating streaming and online release dates as soon as a film wraps up its theatrical run.

This trend continues with the latest installment in the ‘Mortal Kombat’ film series. The sequel picks up the narrative from the 2021 reboot and has already finished its theatrical run, heightening interest in its availability for home viewing.

According to a post from The Beyond Reporter on social media, ‘Mortal Kombat II’ is expected to be available on digital platforms starting June 9. While this information has yet to be officially confirmed by the studio, it has begun circulating among fans online.

The sequel is part of the long-standing ‘Mortal Kombat’ film franchise and continues the storyline initiated by the 2021 reboot. This franchise is based on the popular fighting game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, which has seen multiple film adaptations over the years.

Directed by Simon McQuoid and penned by Jeremy Slater, the film features several returning cast members while introducing new characters. It expands on the universe of Earthrealm warriors and their ongoing battle against Outworld.

The plot of ‘Mortal Kombat II’ centers around Johnny Cage, a martial arts movie star drawn into the conflict between worlds. He is recruited by Raiden and Sonya Blade to join the defenders of Earthrealm in an interdimensional tournament, tasked with stopping the forces of Outworld and the formidable emperor Shao Kahn.

The cast includes familiar faces such as Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Max Huang, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Damon Herriman also returns in a different role, while new additions to the cast include Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Martyn Ford, and Tati Gabrielle, who enhance the expanding storyline.

The movie premiered theatrically on April 27 at the TCL Chinese Theatre and was released in U.S. theaters on May 8. Since its debut, it has grossed approximately $112 million worldwide against an estimated budget of $80 million.

As of now, the rumored digital release date of June 9 has not been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. or the production team. Still, the report from The Beyond Reporter has garnered attention as fans eagerly await the next phase in the film’s rollout and home viewing options.
