Apple TV has officially unveiled the first trailer for Season 2 of Sugar, confirming Colin Farrell’s return as private investigator John Sugar.

The new season of the neo-noir mystery series is set to premiere on June 19. It continues the journey of John Sugar, a private detective in Los Angeles who tackles cases that often lead him into personal and perilous situations. In Season 2, Sugar embarks on a new investigation concerning the disappearance of a rising boxer’s older brother while still searching for answers about his own missing sister, a storyline that has persisted since the first season.

Created by Mark Protosevich, the series first premiered on Apple TV+ in April 2024. The inaugural season, directed by Fernando Meirelles and Adam Arkin, received generally positive reviews and was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography in a Single-Camera Series at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Following its successful debut, Apple TV+ renewed the show in October 2024 due to strong viewer interest.

Season 2 introduces several new cast members. According to Apple TV’s announcement and trailer release, new additions include Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, and Sasha Calle. Actor Shea Whigham also appears as a special guest star. Colin Farrell not only reprises his lead role but continues to serve as an executive producer on the series.

The new season is being showrun by Sam Catlin, who also serves as an executive producer under his Short Drive Entertainment banner. Other executive producers include Audrey Chon, Simon Kinberg, Scott Greenberg, Chip Vucelich, and Colin Farrell himself.

The series is described as a modern interpretation of the private detective genre set in Los Angeles, blending classic noir style with emotionally driven storytelling. At the heart of it all is John Sugar, a private investigator originally hired by a wealthy film producer to locate his missing granddaughter. This case initiated a series of events that uncovered deeper mysteries related to Sugar’s own life.

Season 2 appears to maintain this pattern of intertwining personal and professional investigations. The trailer showcases Sugar navigating a new case while grappling with unresolved issues from his past. This dual storyline hints that the upcoming season will expand both the series’ world and the emotional complexity of its main character.

Based on Apple TV’s trailer and official details, the series will continue to enhance its blend of mystery, character drama, and neo-noir atmosphere when it premieres in June.
