‘Crime 101’ Star Halle Berry Discusses Gayle King’s Cheating Revelation
Halle Berry believes that Gayle King’s recent candidness about her past marriage can inspire other women to share their own experiences. During an interview on NBC’s “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,” which aired Thursday, Berry expressed her support for individuals who choose to open up about such personal matters, noting that many women have faced similar situations.
She stated, “I think we should talk about it, absolutely,” and praised King for her bravery in sharing her story, acknowledging that it resonates with many.
Gayle King recently recounted the end of her marriage to William Bumpus on the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” hosted by Alex Cooper. In that revealing interview, King shared a shocking memory from the breakdown of her marriage, describing how she returned home from a trip to find Bumpus with another woman. She conveyed her surprise at discovering the state of her marriage.
She remarked, “You know how they say the wife always knows? I swear to God, I did not,” emphasizing that she truly had no idea. Although they had experienced arguments, she never suspected that their relationship was in such disarray.
King and Bumpus were married for approximately 11 years and share two children before separating in 1993.
Berry can relate to King’s situation, having also endured a public breakup tied to infidelity. Her marriage to musician Eric Benét ended in 2005 after about four years, during which Benét sought treatment for sex addiction and later admitted to being unfaithful.
Over the years, Berry has discussed her relationship with Benét in various interviews. In a 2024 appearance on the podcast “Armchair Expert” with Dax Shepard, she expressed skepticism about the notion of addiction, stating, “I had one husband who said he was a sex addict, but I don’t fucking believe that shit.”
In her NBC interview, while not naming Benét directly, Berry reflected on the pain of that chapter in her life. She noted that although she didn’t react publicly when the news broke, the memories linger on.
“You remember every detail of the whole situation, and it stays with you forever,” she shared.
Berry also emphasized the therapeutic value of discussing painful relationships, suggesting that sharing these stories can promote healing and help others feel less isolated. “When you can share it, somehow that’s therapeutic,” she noted, appreciating King’s willingness to be open.
Currently, Berry is in a relationship with musician Van Hunt. She has previously mentioned that she took time to focus on personal growth before entering this relationship, choosing to remain single and celibate while determining what she truly wanted in life.
Gayle King, on the other hand, is currently single. Her podcast revelations prompted a public response from her ex-husband William Bumpus, who expressed remorse for their marriage’s issues and acknowledged her right to speak about it. He also mentioned that they have maintained a cordial relationship over the years.
