‘Widow’s Bay’ is a 10-episode series set in a quaint New England town attempting to reinvent itself as a tourist hotspot. The narrative follows Mayor Tom Loftis, portrayed by Matthew Rhys, who advocates for change despite local legends suggesting the island is haunted. Initially dismissing the rumors, the mayor’s perspective shifts as strange occurrences unfold around town.
As supernatural events escalate, Tom teams up with a small group of locals to investigate the happenings. This includes his assistant Patricia, played by Kate O’Flynn, and an older resident named Wyck, portrayed by Stephen Root. Together, they seek to uncover whether the town is genuinely haunted or if something else is at play.
The series also features Tom’s son Evan, played by Kingston Rumi Southwick, alongside Sheriff Bechir Clemmons, Reverend Bryce, and other townsfolk, each reacting differently to the bizarre events. This diverse cast enriches both the mystery and comedic elements of the show.
‘Widow’s Bay’ has garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences, boasting a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have highlighted its adept balance of suspense and humor, with one review noting the series’ understanding of “the careful relationship between suspense and comedy,” likening its tone to other contemporary genre shows.

Created by Katie Dippold, known for her comedic television work, several episodes are directed by Hiro Murai, who has also contributed to acclaimed series like ‘Atlanta’ and ‘The Bear.’ Their combined expertise shapes the show’s unique blend of horror and comedy.
Currently streaming on Apple TV+, ‘Widow’s Bay’ is attracting attention not only from viewers but also from prominent filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro, whose endorsement has generated even more buzz around the series.
